    system noise

for a while i didn't have my subs in the car.

yesterday i put them back in. after 2 hours i started hearing this noise coming from the subs. its a distribution noise and real loud...
    what can it be.

i have two 10" subs and a pyramid amp......old one but in good condition....
    any ideas?
are we there yet are we there yet are we there yet

Since they haven't been in for a while, did you check your ground points? (chassis grounds, amp grounds? all your connections?) It could be that Pyramid amp. I never had any luck with Pyramid.

I'm guessing he meant a whine. Back in the day they had noise suppressors you could buy to isolate the stereo from any electrical interference from the engine, but I haven't heard of anyone having that problem for years.

If he's talking about engine noise/alternater whine then the issue is simple to fix, but a new amp that has better noise suppression.

I know back in the day, shit even when I started my current job 2 years ago we still had noise suppressors. But not anymore, they are useless.

If your stuff is hooked up right and functioning right you shouldnt have noise. If you do have noise you should first check your battery terminals for corrosion, corrosion can easily attribute to engine noise. Then check the ground wire, make sure you have a solid connection. Check the ground with a meter for resistance. Verify all of your connections at your deck, amp and anywhere else are good.

If all else fails, hook it up on a bench test/take it to a bench test at a stereo shop (you will probably have to pay for that) or hook it up in a buddies car that you know has a working system (just dont f up his stuff in the process, ie turn down your gain on your amp before hooking it up).

You said you had distribution noise, everyones been diagnosing engine noise like I just did.

But this is for a subwoofer, subwoofers dont really have the ability to get engine noise due to the fact that they dont produce high pitched sounds.

Hopefully the guy who posted this returns and answers some questions because we keep troubleshooting and hes not even coming back to help himself.

Maybde he's getting a little "whump" when he powers on?

sometimes that can be fixed by adding a resistor (like on the mach systems in a mustang), or putting it on with a switch, turn on thump happens because your amp is getting power and turning on before a signal is being sent to it from your deck. This happens a lot when the remote turn on is hooked up to ignition and the stereo takes a day and a half to turn on.

now maybe someday this guy will come back and read this crap because ive damn near wrote a book already.

I fixed my Engine Whine by grounding the RCA's
Apparently my RCA's werent' grounded, I tried the Ground Loop Isolator....total garbage.
