    Removing gas spills/residue?

    I'm sure I seem to remember a thread on here quite a while ago, But I can't seem to find it

    Anyway, As it does happen, How do I go about removing Gas leakage stains from below the filler cap?
    I suppose the pro to ask is TypeG As I dont want to make any scratches in the paint.
    I did a full wash and chamois this morning, then polished and waxed the car just after lunch which came out good, but now this is annoying me
    I tried meguires paint cleaner on it and diddn't get any results, but I diddn't want to "Work" it into too hard.
    BTW the paint is acrylic lacquer, with lacquer clear coat on top.

    it sounds as if you have a stain on your paint. i'd try a scratch remover, it's a little bit more aggressive than normal car polish. then re-wax. if that doesn't work then you probably have some paint damage. gas can be considered a solvent and a solvent is what's normally used to clean up acrylic lacquer's.

    i'd be interested to see what some of the bodyshop guys here say about this. later.

      I just tried using some Kitten Cream Cut and Polish #2 (I hate using that stuff on paint, cause its so harsh)

      Most of the stain has come out, but yes it appears thats it has gone into the clear coat. So I might try do a wetsand and buff, and see if that fixes it.

      Other wise . . . I've been thinking of throwing 2pack clear over the whole car, so this would be a good excuse for me to get that done.

        Rather than a type of polish perhaps you should use clearcoat safe rubbing compound. Use it lightly but that has always worked for me.

          Can someone please elaborate on this process.

          I see that Evil got the stain out but at the cost of clear.

          I just got home and i had a full service fill up in NJ Monday and i now notice a huge brown cofee like stain under the door.

          Im going to flip the fuck out because the car is white so it is the worst contrast ever.

          I don't have the money to invest in re clearing the paint and wet sanding so im looking for something that could take out SOME of the stain at least without doing to much damage.

          I don't know how else to test products so the help would be appreciated.

          Also note that im in NYC so the weather is fucking cold....like 20* daily.

          So im going to wash it but my time is limited with the car as my wife takes it to work and we have no other car so i can't do anything till this weekend which means the stain is sitting for a week.

          Im going to try to clean it real quick and see if it makes a difference and also ill post pics.

            you have a single stage paint Ralphie. you should be able to get that spot out with cleaner wax. later.

              I actually did get it out thanks.

              I didn't see this post but i went outside and thoroughly cleaned the car anyway since it was nasty from the winter.

              For wash i use Meguiars Gold class soap....it seems to be the best ive used.



              I tried to get the stain out with the soap/water mix.

              No go.

              So i dried the car completely.

              I had a polish but when i double checked it was a Plastic polish...3m i think. So i didn't use that obv.

              My father in law had Nu-Finish sratch remover laying around and it claimed to remove hazing/swirls so i figured it would be safe to use and it was worth a shot.



              And to my amazement it came right out....didn't need any elbow grease really.

              Thank god.

              I didn't realize the earlier posts were for multi stage paints etc.

              This is the second time i had a problem with the gas service dudes.

              The first time was with my cb7. They broke the gas cap holder and didn't tell me so when i found out i flipped....i scared the shit out of my wife because i was so heated i was going to go back and knock the dude out.....what made me so angry was that he didn't say anything....own up to it ya know?

              Now this....like when you pump gas you KNOW when some leaks over....why not wipe it up?

              I fucking hate people...no respect for anyones shit.

                i guess they have gas attendants where you're at? i would hate that, lol. never had someone pump my gas before. later.

                  New Jersey guys pump their fists, not their gas.

                  I, too, would hate that. Not because I have super awesome paint, but because I don't want someone to unintentionally fuck something up.

                    Well i live in NYC so there are some full service stations but it is against the law in NJ to pump your own gas, so every gas dispensing station in the state has to have people to pump your gas for you.

                    While it is a nice idea in the winter or in harsh conditions, i too would rather just do it myself to avoid these problems.

                    Problem is were looking to move to NJ since NYC is way too expensive and while we are in NYC, we go to NJ for the cheap gas. It is 2.89 in New Jersey and 3.49 in NYC, quite a difference.
