    Detailing Engine bay

What's that oily substance that you see everywhere on new car engines? Did a search and couldn't find much info on detailing engine's hoses and wires etc.

Page 7 is engine detailing. It's one of the best simple detailing books I could find around.

yea you can buy an engine detailer in a spray can form at any autoparts store....

there should be 2 like look similar, one is for clean the dirt and grime, the other is for the shine and protectant.

for cleaning the engine though, i recommend simple green and a tooth brush

whatever you do, stay away from Armorall. it has low grade silicones, which can crack and brown rubber. later.

I have heard that before on other car forums, and saying that it has alcohol in it which can dry out the rubber. But I've used it for many years on my dash, and also on my cv boots. Haven't had any problems.

Watch out with the Quick Detail spray some of them are combustible and can cause a fire in your engine bay. My advice would be to not spray it directly on the engine, but you can spray it onto other plastic and rubber pieces to make it all nice and shiny

I use simple green, if not my heavily dilluted degreaser. Spray the solution into the engine bay and then use a toothbrush to scrub down . Gently mist the part with water and then use a towel to wipe it dry. Do this one section of the time so you dont waste water, plus you reduce the chance of flooding the engine bay.
