How to clean up my Polished lip on the rim

hey guys i have 18" rims silver with a polished lip, i tried using this stuff called Magnificent (non-acid wheel cleaner) and i think it made it worse...i just did it on one spot so you can really see it but it like went black only thing i clean my rims with now is soap and water, but they arent that shiny...any help is appreciated, thanks guys!

Mother's Mag and Wheel polish.

It works wonders.

the lip on your wheels is bare aluminum, so with that in mind keep chemicals away from it. use what AccordWarrior suggested. the more you buff the more polished it will become. when you get it like a mirror, switch to mother's billet polish. it has finer polishers in it and will make the refletion even more mirror like. also, try it with a buffing atachment, like the powerball, to save time. later.

Is there a chance i can fuck it up somehow? like over-polish-it and burn the clear coat? if there is any.....sorry noob to polishing rims

You can't buff clearcoat. You're buffing /rim/.

you will know if there is any clear coat or not by rubbing the metal polish on the lip. if it makes a black residue within a few seconds, it's bare metal. if the cloth stays clean, it's clear coated. although the mag and aluminum polish is for bare metal, you can still polish the clear coat on wheels with it. you could even use a rubbing compound on the clear coat. later.

can i just use a cloth? or would you recommend like a polishing wheel with some of the mothers mag and aluminum polish? I saw the red ball they have but that thing is like $30 and mag polisher is only $8 (canadian) i dont mind rubbing it for a long time, or would i not get the same shine?

also why mothers why not eagle1? eagle is more expensive is it worse?

yes. i even use cotton t shirts and flannel microfibers

they do help a lot. the powerball isn't so expensive here ($19). you can find different styels of buffing attachments at hardware stores, like home depot.

i dont mind rubbing it for a long time, or would i not get the same shine?

you can get the same shine, but it's going to come down to time spent, you'd be better off with a buffing bit.

i have never tryed the eagle1, it probably works ok, but i think mother's is the best ''consumer friendly'' polish you can buy. later.

Not that I have alloy wheels (have steelies) I didn't realize you could get away with polishing OEM clearcoated wheels...I guess as long as its not too abrasive and it isn't starting to peel away.
