it seems that this forum has been neglected so i thought i'd write up some reviews of new products i tried out recently.
i've been neglecting the accord as of lately, it's lost its garage spot and hadn't been waxed - i can't remember when the last time was, so we'll just say a while ago
anyways, here's what i went through:
wash & clay
poorboy's SSR1 - had never tried this before, it's a swirl remover with light abrasives, really good for removing oxidation. because of the abrasives it does a good job of actually removing swirls - a great deal of swirl removers simply use fillers to mask imperfections and break down. poorboy's says you can apply by hand, but i recently shelled out for a porter cable 7424 orbital buffer, and after that i don't see how you could get through using cleaning compounds by hand - an orbital buffer saves a great deal of time and energy and does a MUCH better job.
Meguiars #7 glaze - i'd used this before and wasn't expecting anything more than i was used to... essentially it's good for giving a deep gloss and gives back the life that was somewhat lost by using the SSR1. honestly it worked better than ever because the SSR1 had provided a better surface to work with than i had ever dealt with.
4 Star UPP - synthetic wax which means a really good protection that makes the paint really shiny. i haven't been able to witness the wear and tear over time but it's supposed to hold up much better than carnuba's. it applied really well and did what it was supposed to do.
meguiar #26 carnuba - actually a good trick to use carnuba over a synthetic, it will break down more quickly than the synthetic wax but you can just reapply it. just a sidenote the UPP needs 24 hrs of curing to really do a good job so wait to put the carnuba on. but the carnuba adds the depth of color to the paint that the UPP really didn't bring out.
in all the car's paint looks better than when i got the car 65k miles ago, so needless to say i'm very impressed.
if i left anything out just aks.
Jason
