    When to wax after paint

I had my car painted last week. i was wondering when would be a good time to wax it? the paint isnt as smooth as it was when i first got it home.

i would wait at least 2 months.

really, you should ask the body shop that painted the car just to be safe due to different paint manufacturer specifications.

before you wax it, you should clay the entire car including the windows to remove any over spray that settled on the car while it was in the body shop. later.

I waited about a month before waxing mine. I would have waited longer but it had been really hot out that whole month so I just went for it. Should have clay bared it though in hindsight.

i would wait a little while longer. the paint, even though fully dry is still soft. it would be easy to mar the paint. be sure to keep that clay bar nice and wet. later.

Thats not the reason you do not wax it though. You wait to wax it because it is still off gassing...The wax will prevent the solvents from leaving the paint and could cause bubbling, cloudiness and fading. Most paint manufactures say 30-90 days.

              90 days...

Use a body shop safe polish and polish it if you like, but no wax for 90 days.. Seaking of which, mine is ready now... Looks like a final polish, and a nice coat of the wax fo it this weekend.

i agree, i just didn't mention it. it is a good point to bring up as well. however, another factor is the paint softness. you can walk up to fresh paint and dent it with your fingernail, so imagine what abrasive puddy can do. later.

go feel a paint that had been claybar'd .. your paint probably feels like sand paper

wax will seal/protect ur paint ,, so in there are contaminate in ur paint.. that will get sealed and protected as well
