its a unit dedicated to automobile crimes. they have the technology to help them with any info needed. they can check where the car was bought, who it was bought from, what engine belongs in the car, whether its suppose to be manual or auto, what cars have factory HIDs or not, etc.

and yes, you can lose your car unless you have legit paperwork. i knew of someone ridin' around with a stolen b18c5, and finally was pulled over. autocrime was called in..no more b18c5 for him. when this happens, NYPD impounds the car, then you have to pay to have the motor removed, then you pay to have the car removed from the impound..with no motor. and if the judge ain't kind, you can be arrested for stolen property.

about the guys who leaves the cars with cameras in them..they are also part of autocrime.

but i'm glad NYPD is big on this..helps get rid of these bitches who steals shit coz they too fuckin' stupid to read and get educated..or they're just too lazy to get a job

for your information, all cars come with engine codes. i.e. H22a, F22a, etc..doesn't have to only be a civic ex

..lemme guess, u ridin' around w/ (hot) HIDs???

i know what u mean..but it don't matter. if i get pulled over, and they see my F22B, they can check and find out that this motor don't belong in here..they don't need the vin# thats found on the newer motors. i'm done posting here..all i'm saying is that i'm glad autocrime exists in NYC..

i hard wired my HID ballasts to my stock 9006 bulb harnesses, and you say i shouldn't have. what should i have done? run them straight to the battery and run them off a relay?

i'm not tryin to be a smart ass. i just don't want a melted harness. thanks for the heads up.

Yep, relay harness man.. direct from battery. oem harness will not last long on that.. and since ur AC,powersteering, cruise control. all switches.. run off the same harness.. if that blows.. the cost of repair will be upwards of 2000 bux, since all the harness is loomed behind the dash..
