I just did a search, and I was'nt able to find much info on rebased bulbs. Is anyone running OE style BMW/Mercedes/Lexus ballasts and rebased OSRAM style bulbs? I have a buddy giving me two BMW ballasts, and I just need to pick up a set of rebased bulbs, say 4300k. Any pics or suggestions from those with experience? They would be going into a USDM assembly that's been blacked-out. I am concerned with glare and flaring mainly.....

Dude I've been thinking of trying this setup myself as I don't wanna go all out with projectors...I've futzed with H4 bulbs in our headlights and it was "decent"; there wasn't too much peripheral light though. Our reflectors suck...I dunno what the shitty tabs on top and the bottom are for but they will fuck up the beam pattern big time.
If you really hate the projector look (like me) but you wanna have a respectable beam pattern, go with something like these and get rebased H4 D2Rs...or rebase them yourself. I don't have Paypal right now...I was supposed to buy these but that never happened...once I get Paypal back I'll probably order these with 100W bulbs, and rock a switch with an inline fuse and upgraded wiring. If you go on Hidplanet.com's forums, there's a thread called "HID Reflectors" in the general section. Other peeps have done the OEM reflector+D2R job, primarily with Lexus headlights. Good luck with this and keep us posted...I'm a nut for improving headlight optics....

I registered at HID Planet, there is a lot of good info there. Most advise not using a rebased bulb in the OE housing, they suggest going the retrofit route with either Bosch, Valeo, or TSX projectors. I might try to pick up some Bosch projectors for the D2S bulbs because I have the bulbs ans the ballasts I will be receiving soon. The projectors I am refering to are here .1992 Accord LX - SOLD

I rebased a D2R bulb tonight just for kicks, it won't be going in the stock housings though. I've actually got a friend dropping off some ballasts and projectors this week. I want to develop my own retrofit that's no offensive to oncoming drivers.....something with a nice cutoff. We'll see, but for now here's some pics:

The stock reflectors suck bowls, trust me you will be pissed...I messed w/H4 in the stock reflectors (basically like a halogen D2R, maybe?) and the output was pretty bad, no matter how I focused it. The stock reflector uses the full 360 degrees of light to get the so-so beam pattern. With only half the reflector it's unacceptable.

Btw, my ballasts/bulbs/projectors are FREE items.
*edit* I've also got some flat-beam fog housings I'll be experimenting with.Last edited by maroonaccord2.2; 10-25-2006, 10:39 PM.1992 Accord LX - SOLD
