headlights + clearcoat = ?

hey,
the headlights on my car have 1000 little chips from the rocks on the roads. I would like to clean it up.

here is what i know, I canNOT wetsand them.
Everytime i put water or armorall on them they look like new.

what i was wondering is if i put a layer of clearcoat on them, it would prolly fill the small dents, and leave a nice top.

can this work?

yup ive heard that you could spray on a clear coat and it will last kinda new lookin for a while, gl man
