    coupe tailight question

Yesterday I saw what I believe to be a pure stock 93 Accord Coupe, think it was EX, not sure though. As I glanced at the tailights I noticed that there were the same as those found a sedan i.e. able to swap with red/clear tailights. Is what I saw correct, and so all I would need for my 92 coupe is a 93 coupe trunk lid, and then to buy a lock cylinder fitted to my keys by Honda. Thus I could finally get red/clears WITHOUT losing the ability to unlock the trunk WITH the keyhole in the trunk. Anyone know if this is true.
I know about the sedan trunk lid swap, and call me crazy, but I like opening the trunk AT the trunk if I want, and I don't really trust solenoids to do the job everytime for the next 5-6 years. This is why I want to know if what I saw was true, and there is a 4th gen. coupe with the same tailights as the 4dr models.

    Anyone?

not for 92-93. the 90-91's are all the same.

The front bumper was that of a 92-93. same with the front grill. so I thought it would be a 92-93. if it is a 90-91 coupe, then can the swap still work and allow me to use my key AT the trunk. if so red/clears here I come.

The outer taillights are the same so any 92-93 coupe's/sedan's outer taillights will fit(OEM or aftermarket).

The inner taillights are different. The coupe's runs longer than the sedan and it curves inward towards the license plate.

There are NO aftermarket replacements for the coupe's inner taillights. I've actually contacted many distributors and they've searched for them with no results.

If you can do a trunk conversion from the coupe to the sedan, then you can get your red/clear or altezza's aftermarkets.

I've learned to love the stock ones.

from my understanding, if you do the trunk swap, the important thing is to have the key for that trunk (after all, it is a trunk from a different car). without a new key, you will be relegated to popping the trunk from the cabin, and will not be able to open it with the key for your car. in essence, you will have a key for the ignition and doors (assuming you still roll with keyholes) and a separate key for the trunk. i suppose this would present as much hassle as older ford owners have (not sure if it's still the case, but there would be a key for the doors, and a separate key for the ignition).

i suppose if you go to a junkyard to get a trunk, you should take down the vin number of the car you get it from. then you could/should take the vin number to honda, to have a key cut for the car (at least i believe it should be the vin number).

if i'm wrong, please, someone correct me.

also, i am unsure if you can get a new lock cylinder made for the swapped trunk; so that you don't have to have 2 sets of keys. i have never heard of this, but suppose that it is possible.

anything is possible with enough money

I'd hafta agree with Importkitz, i also have grown to love my stock tails, But around here EVERYONE and their mother has altezzas and masked its actually a joke here. Around here if you have altezzas its considered Autozoning your shit out lol, just cuz in the race to be unique people have beat the shit out of aftermarket tailights

although i do think the red and clears are cool, so good luck if you decide to do the swap, although i think the way the stock lights curve in gives our coupes that extra sweetness

i think i might but i need to find out.....1. will a 90-91 sedan trunk fit my 92coupe properly?" 2. will the 90-91 red/clears fit my 92coupe properly? 3. if the 90-91 wont fit then are there 92-93 sedan trunk lids WITHOUT the extra chunk in the license plate area?

                    anyone know?

I was actually thinking about getting a coupe trunklid, as I like those lights more...I would red them all out and be good to go.

Sadly enough...I got my car stolen Tuesday nite in a parking lot. I love my coupe and would never settle for a sedan.

I hope those bastards fry in hell.

                          1. not sure, maybe
                          2. assuming the trunk did fit, then i would think so. but again, i'm unsure
                          3. if the 82-93 sedan didn't have the "extra chunk"/inner portion in the license plate area, then wouldn't it be the trunk you already have?!?! in other words, it would be the trunk of a coupe, lol.

thanks everyone. and uncle-el you are right about the VIN number being what Honda needs to cut a new key. i think i will go with the 92-93 sedan trunk cuz I like the 92-93 red/clears rather than the 90-91 clear/reds.

                            thanks again
