Custom LED running lights. Need energy!

Well, after seeing newer cars having a running light inside there headlights... I've decided to design my own. I have 2 5mm blue LED's and 220 Ohm resistors. The next thing I need is a 12v source that is only on when the car is on. Sure I can hook it up o the regular running lights but I'd like to have it on all the time. Anyone can help me?

What I plan to do is drill a small hole just big enough to fit the LED in over the High Beams. Silicone the hole and LED so no water can get in. The drillbit for the hole is 13/64's. Obviously I'm going to angle this hole towards the chrome to have it shine a lil more.

And to put how birght this lil bastard is... Right now I have the LED hooked up to one of those abnormal 9v batteries (The ones with the + & - on top of it.) and well. It can blind people. lol. I can't wait.

If this all works out, ill be glad to get pictures and see what you guys think.

I thought about doing this as well. I am going to run mine to a switch, so I can have the option of having them off when I want incase I need to blackout completly.

Well for today i was only able to get one led in. Ended up blowing a fuse and it took me forever to find cuz of the nighttime to find it. I just decided to wire them up to the running lights cuz I was lazy and didnt feel like running wire through the firewall.

But i was able to see what it looked like turned on. looks really interesting. I'm a fan. I've decided to put two in a headlight just because it will glow a bit more when the headlights are on. I'll hopefully have pictures for ya's tommorrow when i get to finish it.

Why don't you run the power off of the battery with an inline fuse. If I run any seperate accesories, I run them on their own power wire. That way if something gets messed up, I know right where to look.

Also if I were you, I would sand down the tip of the LED so it shines more spread out, instead of directional with the rounded tip LED

I thought about doing an LED setup on my headlights but I just can't bring myself to drill into the headlights for fear of F'n up the reflectors.

You won't mess up anything. I use a 1 inch hole saw to cut holes in headlights for strobe tubes all the time. You'll be fine
