    thinking about getting HID.

well i've been considering getting some 92 JDM 1pc headlamps, and i definitely want HIDs, but i'm not sure about going eBay with this.

lol, i saw rebased bulbs, those are good? well i want HIDs in my headlamps and fog lamps (pending on me getting them) but i can't afford to retrofit a projector (valeo, etc.) so i thought going with the right bulbs instead of silicon'ing in some "other cars" HIDs would be the right way.

thoughts? i just want my light to be noticeable as HID (color) and bright as hell (with as little glare as possible).

i bought my HID (lexus ballasts and philips d2r bulbs) from ebay. they were very clean. i suggest for you to never buy rebased bulbs. the integrity of the bulbs is sacrificed when doing so. ebay is not that bad. you just need to know exactly what you are buying.

siliconing and/or rebasing is only necessary if you plan on putting the d2r bulbs into a USDM headlight housing. but if you plan on putting them into a JDM headlight housing, you DO NOT need to silicon it. you can simply use the base of any H4 bulb as an adapter to hold the d2r bulb. then just wire up the ballasts and you got HIDs.

however without a shield, you will get massive glare if you run an HID bulb into an H4 housing. its like running with the high beams on. you need to somehow cover up the lower half of the bulb. this keeps the light only on the upper half of the reflective housing, which is the low beam.

if this is all confusing to you, i suggest to do some researching before you do anything else. you CAN retrofit HIDs from another car into yours (without retrofitting in a projector). i've done it!

i believe it's easiest for you to get an HID kit specifically designed for H4 housings. let me know if i can help in your quest for better lighting.

there are adapters now for H4 bulbs w/ the casper shield. you just plug the adapters in,like a bulb, and the D2R bulbs plug into them and gives you a nice, clean, and secured fit. saw someone on ebay selling just recently, but i'm trying to obtain a set soon.

well, yeah i figured i'd need that shield thingy. will i have an aggressive cutoff line?

i'm willing to spend 300$ at most, and no i'm not cheap, but making 8$ an hr. plus having other things to do with your car is playing a role in my budget.

ie: alarm, system, leather, hids, strobes, air horns.

so i'm trying to get everything together, so i can roll out at the end of winter, painted and so fresh so clean.

You will never have an aggressive cut-off line with reflector housings, especially with a halogen housing. Not even OEM HIDs with reflectors have an agressive cut-off (lexus, acura), only projecotrs. And even then there are certain projecotrs with agressive cut-offs and some with out.

actually, (not trying to say you are wrong), the lexus and acuras have a nice cutoff. i love when i hit a bump and see them leveling out (had a es330) for a day.

but right now i have maxima HIDs in, aimed down. they aren't blinding and do a bit better than halogen. nice, bright and white. there is some stray light, but i aimed them down, honestly. and no, for everyone's info they aren't stolen. my cousin had a infiniti qx4, and he had a friend in a nissan/infiniti dealer, so he got them through him thinking they would be a perfect fit. but ended up trading in the qx4 and passing down the goods.

Well, which Acura? Because the TL with reflectors is one of the worst, only the new ones with projectors will give you a sharp distinctive cut-off. Now the Lexus reflector is waaaayy better than the Acura reflector but nothing beats a projector.

you are definitely right sir, the new tl was the one i was speaking of.

lexus on the other hand, has always had quality lighting (think '00 and up), and the older tl had weaksauce cutoff point. and nothing beats a projector setup, but i have no $ or knowhow with it and i'm afraid of fucking up, because honestly thats what i always wanted.
