I think it looks good, clean way to shave some weight. Nice going!
The only downside I see is that you can't put anything back there, I love my backseat. But really clean execution.

i like, it, but i think you should back it with some of the same type of cardboard stuff as the spare cover is made of, or something even lighter. there is a cure for the carpets not matching up though: dye 'em both black! anyway, that does look good.
this has given me the idea of scheduling my interior re-do the same week as the OMR-SCCA autocross session near me in june. if im gonna strip it, i may as well do something with it!

oh, i can fit stuff in there no problem, and just the other day i fit my son's new bike back there no problem at all. also, ive had a couple trips in it in which i have put my army gear in there and it works great.

id like to put the cardboard backing stuff there to make it firm, but i have been thinking of putting the back seat back in, so im not sure.

well I think it looks great! I have been wanting to do the same thing with my coupe. To me my back seat is always unused partly because none of my friends like the idea of climbing in there. But the only thing that stopped me was losing heat to the trunk in the winter and the noise.Im sure this would help both of those issues out tho. plus im using the tubing bender at the family garage to make myself a cage for back there. Im gonna have to try this

my wife refuses to ride in the car with me, so i figured why not make it an official anti-family car? thats why we have a passat wagon anyways, for the family.

when i plan on covering up where my back seat was im going to use the mesh from home depot that everyone uses in their "grills", underneath the carpet so its not flapping around when i have the window down. ill let you guys know how it works out.
