Gauging Intrest...96-01 Moonroof swap

I'm looking to do a 96-01 moonroof swap. I've done some research, and the dealer says it may fit, but I can't be too sure. I would rather do a 98-01 swap so my moonroof would tilt, but I don't know if it is the same size as the CB7. The reason being is I like the gray tint over the bronze tint that the CB7 has. As far as I know, the bronze tint changed to gray in 96. The only way to get rid of the bronze tint would be to swap out the glass pieces. But since my moonroof leaks a little, and the motor is kinda wore out, I was just going to replace the whole assembly. If the 98-01 moonroof fits, I might just do that swap, yet I know I will need all the wiring and switch to do it. What do you guys think??? Has anyone ever done a conversion like this before?

I know the 92-96 Prelude to 97-01 Prelude swap is doable. Which makes me believe other swaps are possible. I would just try to get a moonroof cheap. I bet you don't even need the new switch.

Well for the tilt feature, I will need the switch...I know the 96-97 accord moonroof assy. is pretty much plug N play......but I would rather do something cool and have the tilt feature.....so the 97-01 lude one works huh.....it looks kinda big....but I might be wrong...that would be sick if it actually did work tho....has anyone actually tried something like this??

nononono. You misread. I just was saying in Preludes, the 92-96 and 97-01 interchange. So I would think there's a good chance that the 5th gen Accord and 4th gen Accord would interchange.

Oooh......my bad...I was starting to get excited there! I am thinking about picking up a 98-01 assembly from a local junkyard......with all the wiring and the switch, the main idea of this is that I want to find a way for a tilting sunroof to fit into a CB7.....I am hoping there will be more people looking at this...I need some clues before I blow off half a days work and all the money in my bank account. I am almost positive that a 5th gen assembly will fit into a CB7.....I know the glass pieces are the same....and the overall shape is almost identical from what I could tell between my accords. Unfortunately I sold my CD5 before I thought of this geneous idea. DAMMMIT!

next time i got to work(where my CD5 is stored currently), i will measure the dimensions of the moon roof for you if you would like . . . its a 94 and i think the tint is gray . . . not positive tho, i dont look at the roof of the car all that often

Well....its all good. I know the shape is exactly the same. I bought a 97 Glass assembly, and I put it on top of my 91 glass, and they matched perfectly. The only problem I ran into was the fact that the 94-97 accord Glass bolts to the rails, with four bolts in the front(two on each side) and same with the back....I have no Idea how the 90-93 glass bolts down to the rails (it definately wasn't the same though), So I think I have to pick up the rail/motor assy. from the 97 that I took the glass out of. The 94-95 accords had bronze tint...the glass piece that I picked up off of that 97 had grey tint....I really want to do the 98-01 accord moonroof swap a lot more tho because of the tilt feature. If anyone has the dimensions on this piece, it would be really helpful. Thanks!

Does the 5th gen moonroof have the vent or tilt feature? I would consider changing assemblies if I could have the vent feature.

^^No the Moonroof just slides back. The switch has two buttons,
OPEN and CLOSE.
Have you tried looking into the Civics ?
All Civics after 1992 had the Tilt feature.

The 94-97 Accord Moonroof only slides....Ive owned two CD5 EX's......about the civic moonroof.....the only reason I wouldn't even consider trying it out is because the sunroof actually slides on top of the roof....a four door CB7 would look very odd with the moonroof on top of it. This is why I like the 98-01 Accord moonroof....it has the vent feature, and slides inside the roof. Maybe a 96-00 civic moonroof would work....I think they slide into the roof instead of on top...ill have to look into it....but if anyone likes the idea of the 92-95 civic assy. feel free to try it out...I'm sure there are plenty of people on this site that would love to have a moonroof with the tilt feature!
