    my new extended shifter

I really dig the hotrod/ratrod look of the ridiculously tall shifter, so I made my own. It's completely bolt-on, as I didn't wanna hack up or weld on my OEM shifter.

It's a 12" long piece of 3/4" pipe. Relief cuts made the bends, an M10 x 1.50 nut makes it thread on the stock shifter, and a M10 x 1.50 bolt threads my bowling pin shift knob on.

Let me answer a few questions about it:

    Is it practical? No.
Was this done for looks? Yeah, pretty much.
    Is the throw increased? Yes.
Do I like it? Yeah, I love it.
Is that all that matters? Yes lol

Its just in raw metal right now. I'm trying to figure out if I want to paint it or polish it, but I thought I'd share anyways.

Question, can you pop 1st gear, without inference from the wheel/indicator stork/dash?

        So cool!
Looks better than mine, just two bolts welded togther so I could thread on a shift knob and a couple nuts for the shifter.
        I like your idea better!

Lol, the boot is the next thing I'm working on. I'm thinking of welding a small washer towards the bottom so that the boot can't fall down and expose the stock shifter. I just tried it out today. It definitely took some getting used to. I didn't catch anyone looking, but its only a matter of time before I look over at a redlight and see someone with their DAFUQ? face on.

It doesn't interfere or hit anything throughout travel.

Thanks! I probably spent maybe $3 on mine. The 3/4 pipe was free because I got it from work. The only thing I paid for was the nut to thread on the stock shifter and the bolt to thread on my shift knob. I used a spacer as a reducer from the 3/4" pipe to the M10 bolt to make it look a little more "stock"

Is it heavy? Mine wobbles around a bit when it's in neutral.

It's not heavy at all. It glides into gear. It does have some wobble in neutral and a little in the gears, but I attribute that to the small amount of play in the shifter already multiplied by the added leverage of the long shifter.

That is probably due to the shifter bushings or the slop in the shifter box.
That's cool you like it, I get people asking me why I extended mine too, I can never think of a good reason so I either say: "because it's cool or; because it's closer to the steering wheel".

Back in my mini trucker days I made a chain link shifter with brass knuckles for the grip... Everyone loved that thing but few could ever master it the way I did mostly because it was designed for a tall guy with long arms

I was thinking of extending it to look like some of rally race cars but not that long. Your's is very unique.

You should have a quick disconnect on that thing and use it as a club.

^^ not a bad idea but then it would need some hooks and would get in the way and stuff

You're probably right. I'm gonna look into replacing those soon, just to tighten it up a little. I did mine solely because it just looks cool and I've never seen one on a Honda. My style is based around my love for minitrucks and ratrods. People may think its ridiculous and pointless, and they're right. I just choose to stay far from the norm.

I'm working on a few smaller ones that I may sell. Lol I've thought about using it as a club, but I already keep the thick end of a personal pool stick in between my seat and my door.

Well to kinda give you guys an update, I've had the extended shifter on for about a week or so. Originally, I made it to come off easily because I wasn't sure how comfortable it would be to drive with daily.

But, I've gotta say I really like it. It's different than your standard shifter and it took some getting used to (reaching up instead of down to shift). The curve in it keeps the knob in a straight line with the angle of the oem shifter so that you're not reaching in the back seat to shift to 4th (as it'd probably feel if I had left the pipe straight.)

The people who've seen it so far think its ridiculous and weird to see in a Honda. My wife's cousin saw it the other day and all he could say was "really?"

I've made a boot for it using a bandana. I'll toss some pics up tonight when I get home. I've got to redo it because I cut the hole for the shifter to slip through a little too big and the fabric slips outta the collar. Still debating on polishing or painting it.
