Another way to upholster door panels

Thanks that's some good info so you didint remove the original vinily (I can remember how to spell) you just wraped over the exsisting material is that how you did it before I saw this thread I went to and uplosthery shop and they told me it was to difficult to do the panel because of how they are made. So they wanted to dye them.

no, I didn't remove the original vinyl, except for the bottom area where I modified the door panel. Yes, it is hard for my friend to wrap over the vinyl because it requires an extremely thorough cleaning. Also, you pretty much have one shot when gluing the material down cause if you try to pull it back up it'll pull the glue loose from the vinyl. Dying them would probly be easier, but I've never done it.

Update

So we found out the hard way that the spray glue we used does not hold to vinyl. It was like the solvents in the glue were drawing out oils and other contaminants in the vinyl that would soften the glue and cause the suede to lift. Only areas in the entire interior that lifted were the vinyl wrapped pieces.

I stripped the passenger door panel suede and vinyl off, scraped off the thin layer of factory foam padding and we started over again. My friend used a special type of "vinyl foam" to replicate the oem foam and re-wrapped the panel in black Alcantara suede again. Here are some pics with the foam on:

stripped down and touched up the driver door panel today. Passenger door panel is re-wrapped and looks awesome! I'll be fiberglassing the gray insert back into the panel soon, and hopefully the driver door panel will be re-wrapped by next week. All that's left after that is for my friend to stitch up some black suede covers for the arm rests. More pics will be posted when I have em!

Driver door panel is re-wrapped now, gotta pick it up from my friend asap. I'll be attaching the inserts this week hopefully... Work's been pretty busy so it's been hard to find time to get it done.

Ok, so here are some pics of the finished inserts. The first pic shows the insert set in place, with the fiberglass ring as a backer. The next pic shows the fiberglass mat applied, which fuses the door panel back together as one piece again. And the last pics are the final product.

Still waiting for my arm rests to be re-done, should have them soon.
