Yeah, still havent' gotten back to it! I repositioned the hood in my basement... moved my band practice area up to my spare bedroom, so the basement is now ALL car stuff I have to wipe it down and get going on it!

Ok, coat #4 is down and dry. Now it's time to wetsand again.

I've been told that my previous wetsanding technique was incorrect, so could someone offer advice on how to do it properly? Circles, I'm told. Small circles?

It's in my basement, so running water isn't going to happen. Previously, I just kept the hood wet and kept dunking the paper. Seemed to work out well!

edit: reading pwns me! Had to go back to the advice given by Dean and Brandon... and then searched on some Chevy forum for some more examples. Straight lines / crisscross for best coverage.

I should've picked up a thin rubber sanding block... oh well... maybe for the final coat.

Ok, wetsand #2 done. Still cut through to gray on a few spots... That was with 800 grit though. 1000 is next... and I may do another 2 coats and a 2000 grit wetsand after that. Then polish.

Nothing yet. I might get one today or tomorrow before the next coat starts.

You might look at getting a sanding block for the final sands. It's insane how varied your pressure can be if you're just holding on to the paper.

It's a lot harder to burn through coats with a block.

I just sprayed my crx's hood, rattle cans, top coated with clear lacquer spray, no sanding at all, I'll see if I can get pics tomorrow.

Biggest problem I had was that I was working outside in direct, hot sunlight, so the paint was practically dry before it hit the surface, made it very hard to get even coverage without leaving lines, streaks, it looked like a plaid shirt. I'm gonna maybe wetsand and/or use some rubbing compound tomorrow, and hopefully get it looking better.

on the stairs, she grabs my arm, says whats up,
where you been, is something wrong?
i try to just smile, and say everything’s fine.

3m makes a soft block just for what your doing deev, it's like $5 i think. i have like 10 of them for different purposes. but yes your correct in your new found sanding technique.

side note to the streak comment.
If your basecoat is streaked and you cleared it, you wll not be able to fix this,, the only thing you can fix is the orange peel or the whole flies that might have gotten in the clear before it was totally cured.
Even if you had used single stage and it streaked then you would still have to repaint for even coverage.

As for water deev, just do what some body shops do and use squirt bottle water. I normally use a hose with a special end. but if their is something that messes up on me in the both i normal take a bottle in their to fix it.

                            Cool. Thanks

Squirt bottle and foam block added to the shopping list.

I did the 2nd sanding already by hand. Looks better than the first. I may need to do 8 coats if the final sand doesn't come out well.

Hey, so these are the first pics I've ever shown of the rex I've had for like 4 months now, prob cause I still can't drive it....Anyway, the sun was setting so this is after the paint and lacquer but before any kind of polishing

I started using some duplicolor in the cars stock color, but I ran out like 1/4 into the job and no one else had any in stock, so I was kinda stuck. So I bought duplicolor's universal metallic black and it doesn't look bad. I top coated with some valspar clear lacquer gloss
