nice mike. looking good, for what it is.

the good thing about this process is that you could do it piece by piece... finish up with the hood as you get the hang of it... then you could do a trunk lid... then the roof... then a fender... all the while learning and perfecting the technique and proper formula.

what are you going to do for under the hood as well as the door jams? spray paint would probably work out really well.

Yeah, piece by piece is the plan. Supposedly the color is very stable, so I could repaint a part 3 months later and it would match perfectly... I have heard that certain colors aren't as colorfast as others... we shall see!


As for the under the hood and the doorjambs, I'll probably spray. Under the hood will definitely be sprayed. Jambs might get rustoleum with a foam brush... i dunno. Yet another thing to try!

I'm doing this to my 86 hatchback, not the CB7. The CB7 has already been professionally painted twice, and will probably get it AGAIN once I get this rust fixed... AGAIN!
As for curing, I don't use anything. Air dry down in my dungeon.

Nice job deever on the project! I didn't know you can use rollers to paint a car. I'm going to keep this in mind in the future.

you need a soft block and not by hand.

never go in circles. always go in a backa nd forth motion and after you get it good go back the other way kinda making an x that way it's been cover well..

i realize this is practice and your learning,, not tryin to tell you how to do it, just a lil help for ya to think about.

Fish eyes? As in bubbles, or dark spots? A few of those appeared... I figured out how to squash em as I went though.


And Chan_Man, I usually DO play D&D on Friday nights I hate it, but I'm doing it as a favor to my friend, since her boyfriend (who she's trying to fix some issues with) plays, and wanted her to play... Right now I'm a level 4 Paladin named Priapus (got the name from a thread here... look it up, and you'll see how serious I am about playing ! )

fish eyes look like little hole where the paint seperates around something perfectly in the center,,,,, any armoral products will make this happen, or oil or anything that looks at you wrong will do this..

for giggles put some armoral on something then paint it and thats what we are talking about.

A painters greatest enemy.! I had a problem for a month at the shop and tried to trace down the problem.. it ended up being my clothe detergent.

i was using the powder kind and switched it to the liquid and my problem stopped imidiately...

that might sound crazzy but fish eyes are a sign of a poor paint and body shop by all means and you have to try some extreme things to find the problem.

Not sure... I wouldn't spend the money for regular auto paint though. Not to do it with a roller! (you can spray on the rustoleum too...)

For the price of regular auto paint, it would be dumb to even try! Regular paint is expensive, which is why the Rustoleum became the paint of choice!
