cost of shaving antenna estimate

i know prices vary but what whats a good price to have a business shave my antenna.. and repaint it the same color

here's another way of doing it, with prices
1 spray-can of color matched paint: $25 (at most)
1 container od bondo-glass: 5
1 small container of bondo: 5
1 small tube JB weld: 5
1 can primer: 4
1 small can of clear: 3
wet/dry sandpaper from 200-2000 grit: should be less than 20 for it all
1 quarter: um, $0.25
total cost: 47.25 +tax
dong it yourself: priceless (and you'ss have a ton of supplies left over to do several other DIY's)

1: jbweld a quarter (or a similar sized piece of steel) behind the hole, on the inside of the quarter panel.
2. sand down the paint on the outside to bare metal
3. apply a thin layer of bondo-glass to the hole so it comes up to the sueface of the metal.
4: sand the bodo-glass smoother and apply a layer of bondo.
5. sand the bondo down smooth and apply another layer if needed. sand that down smooth with up to about 800-1000 grit
6. spray several thin coats of sandable primer
7. wet-sand with up to 2000 grit until smooth
8. spray paint with thin, smooth strokes, feathering it in with the surrounding paint.
9. spray clear coat on the surface
10. wet-sand the surface of the fender until its as smooth as the rest of your car.
11. after a couple days, wax the paint and admire your newly shaved bumper

this is the procedure i will be going through during spring break when i shave mine as well as a few other things and fix the idiot stripe i got from hitting a light pole.

i work at a bodyshop and it wouldnt be too much, i would estimate it at $150usd or so. Just tell them to blend within the panel.

blend jobs suck. you work at a body shop, you KNOW blend jobs suck.

well maybe its satisfying for some, but i hate it. You can always tell, i dont care how good a painter you are, new paint will always stick out like a sore thumb. I refuse to blend.

you refuse to blend? so what do you want them to do? you dont have many other other options, if you paint the whole panel it will be VERY different from your door and your roof and trunk lid, if you blend withing a panel the results are usually much better, i have seen cars where you cant tell at all, however since the antenna is close to the trunk lid, there is gonna be a color difference between the trunklid and your 1/4 panel. You cant get away, no matter what you do it will be visable that you painted the 1/4 panel or a part of it, unless you paint the whole car. Or if the bodyshop matches the paint perfect which they usually dont do, dont try to anyways.

im guessing this is sarcasm but i'll sidestep it.

the problem with blending or panel painting is that you can tell the difference. Aleks77 agreed with this point. The average consumer can't tell a difference or dont care enough to complain, but i can. Its shoddy.
i understand you work at a body shop and you have to do what business or your bosses dictate. But you have to admit it looks like crap. Hence reason #477 i dont work at a shop for anyone else. I do my own stuff and i'll open my own shop one day with my set of values. My work is a reflection of me as a person and the people i deal with know this and wont come to me with the hopes of cheapening out. Get your cars body work done and then paint the whole car once. i'd rather see a car with a uniform craptacular paint job than one panel nice, one panel orange peeled all to hell, a 13 yr old original paint panel etc... because they got their paint done in spurts. I hate it when people ask me to paint their body kits. same situation. Best option - do everything you want as far as body work goes then get the car shot down one time.

cut a metal blank to fit underneath (or inside) the hole and get it welded, then Mar Glass it (fiberglass stranded bondo) sand it down reapply if necessary till almost smooth, then one layer of Metal Glaze feather it all out then primer, paint
