I'm shaving my antenna next weekend if weather permits. I have both Bondo and JB Weld, which would be better to fill in the hole?

if you just do bondo or body filler its just going to crack, you need some support, i did mine and i welded a piece of metal first, or you can jb weld a quarter then apply a coat of body filler over that, make sure to grind to metal for good adhesionLast edited by blackcb7; 01-15-2007, 03:15 AM.

If you bondo the hole shut, your gonna end up with a chunk of bondo the size of a quarter and a big empty hole in a few months. bondo isnt very strong by its self. save money, do it right.
also, Bondo shouldnt be applied over 1/8'' thick. or else expanding and contracting problems will crack it all up.-RIP Eric Hall. Miss you brother-

i welded a Quarter in mine. its CuNi though so you need access to a TiG.
but if welding isnt an option use fiberglass mat under the hole then fill with tiger hair (Mar-Glas, or any fiber strand reinforced filler) then sand, one layer of bondo, sand, last layer of metal glaze, sand and feather then paint. viola!

I dont have a welder and sorry if I sound like an idiot, but can i just JB weld some sort of quarter or a sheet of tin under the hole and bondo over it? Will the bondo still crack? And also if I did do the quarter or metal under the hole how well does the bondo stick to it? I do have the bondo mesh, but I guess its not good enough for this job?

dont use bondo. If you must do it without welding, use a piece of fiberglass and resin and stick it under the hole from inside the car. (cut a long piece of fiberglass, tape the ends down, apply the resin to the middle part, let it dry, hair dryer will help speed that up, then once dry peel tape from ends and cut with scissors or sand down to get the loose mat off) . Then from the outside of the car use Fiber Reinforced filler, NOT just straight body filler. This will help avoid cracking. Now, fiber stranded filler doesnt sand smooth without pinholes, so you'll need to sand smooth, spread a layer of regular filler, sand that smooth then spread a layer of Metal Glaze. I personally use this all the time:

enjoy!
