which paint do you guys recommend for a entire paint job exterior (no door jambs or underneath hood, trunk). its going to be a green repainted and i am dealing with the paint shop and cant decided what quality or even what brand of paint to go with. i have favored the top of the line PPG including its clear top of the line also. they do have a lower end line from PPG. i dont know what to go with. i really want a nice paint job, just dont know if the top of the line PPG is too much or just what i am asking for. i know there is some members who work, own, operate bodyshops or paint professionaly, i need some advice fellows. i am going thru Finish Master here in the city i live in. All and any advice welcomed.

PPG is an outstanding paint.. thats what Cadillac uses and DuPont is probably even higher up in rankings.
All of my paint jobs have been DuPont and you can ask ANYONE who has seen my old Accord.. it was incredibly nice. But then again, I had an awesome painter do my work so the bodywork was perfect in the end.Adam - Retired OG member from '03

I spent about $700 - $800 for the paint/pearl/clear for my Accord when it was painted, and that was with a discount as well. We used a lot of paint to get everything sprayed.. inside of the doors were painted (behind door panels), some of the engine bay, all jambs, underside of hood / trunk, inside of trunk area.. and so on.
So yeah, for a nice paint job you're forking out some money.Adam - Retired OG member from '03

yeah i am at $700 with the PPG, thats paint/clear/ and all matierals, primer my painter has some so i dont have to buy that. My painter is a good guy and great painter, has painted a few show cars at the shop he worked at, they went down due to the owner doing scams. but the painter now works at my best friends shop and he is painting my car. whoo hooo but paint is expensive without a hook up. i need to call around maybe even LA area to see if paint is any cheaper or a better deal.

PPG is good, but if youre saving money go with their lower line, which is Omni. I spray PPG and Omni almost exclusively, just recently have i turned to DuPont. But all my personal cars were Omni. Omni is nice because you can use anything PPG mixed with it and it works fine. (e.g.- if you spray Omni base you can use PPG clear, but you cant use PPG base and Omni clear.)
I've painted kandy over a silver omni base, i've mixed HOK flakes with omni clear, everyone turned out beautifully.
Heres HOK Abalone and Green mixed flake over Omni base. The line is 13 coats Kandy green over Omni silver base:
same car before clear:
My Sentra, same HOK Abalone flake over Omni base:
trunk, ignore the lime green, the car shot Omni Lime Twist before:
another Omni job, another ricer civic:
i got tons more but i think you can see that omni works well as a decent paintjob without too much cost that will last. just my $0.02

The quality of your paint job also depends on the primer you use.. which valueshade are you going to be using? What color EXACTLY are you planning?Adam - Retired OG member from '03

i am going from a green as my car was originally its coded was (BG-26M-3) to a slighlty darker oem honda green also on a accord (BG-30P-3). i want a green something dark forest with metallic alittle bit in there, dont need lots of flakes. i am painting the side moldings including the portion on the bumpers black ( i love that sporty look, well establish by bmw especially the m3 and m5, of the 90's). i am painting the side moldings as the color of the car which we will be painting over them they are stock black. the front lip i will paint it black, all the damage it will see in the future gotta prepare for that. now i was told by the painter omni has some colors you can cheap out on , he pointed out a red he had painted it look pretty sweet with its clear coat and all, but he said the green i am going for you can cheap out on. he quoted me really good last time i talked to him, now it jumped another 600 dollars. i am a fulltime student and i go to school in 3 weeks, so money is going to be tight. does anyone know of a franchise store to buy my paint from that has good pricing?? i live in the heart of customization Los Angeles well its like 1 hour away, so i can go there and pick it up. thanxs guys for all the comments and concerns

Originally posted by bjaccordPPG actually has about 4 lines, starting with OMNI as the lowest, and Global at the top. I painted my truck with Global line, and used there DBU line on a buddies BMW, and both looked great, but the dbu is cheaper.
I have used dupont and not a very big fan, as of now I only spray ppg. I do 5-8 cars a day when were busy and ppg has less screw up's than other lines.
So my recomendation is 100% PPG.
