fiberglass,in my case my rust is so bad on both rear quarters that i have to go to a junkyard and find some honda accords with good rear quarters and cut them out and have them welded onto my car(after i cut mine out).if your metal is all gone then either use fiberglass or have a pro weld metal in.but fiberglass is a solution for the meatime.oh ya one more thing i recomend taking that rubber liner of of both wheel wells and keep them off because they trap moisture wich causes that rust.good luck.

Not to knock on ATXs DIY, but thats just a temporary fix...so if you do try it, it will save alot of money, but one of the downsides is that its alot harder to build up the innerfender edge that your talking about, with bondo, or even fiberglass for that much, and then keep it from not cracking and falling out. Then your basically back where you started. The only proper way to fix is to take it to a bodyshop and have them weld in a new plate on the quater panel.

But if you want a temp sol, then go with fiberglass...but first take some "chicken" wire and shape out the contour of the panel and edges, then fiberglass over that and be sure not to make it too thick, or it will crack.

honda told me to take that rubber off,it traps dirt, salt and water all through the rubber liner, all the body shops i have been to told me that too,it makes sense.i would rather have a little paint come off were its not visible anyway then rust.as long as you wash thecar aenough you should be able to keep it clean.but that rubber does trap a shit loadof crap because when i took mine off there were grass in it and dirt, salt, even tiny pebbles,i would remove it because since i removed mine last year the paint is still there.

I wasnt trying to say you where wrong, but I was just stating what I was told about them...but I can agree with you on the dirt that gets trapped behind there, I just take those off and clean them every once in a while, then put them back on. The thing I was talking about, was if you remove them and keep them off, then the paint is has no protection from rock and such, then if a rock flings up-chips the paint-then water gets inside the paint-then it'll rust.

But either way, I think we all agree here that you should take it to a bodyshop and have them fix the damaged area.

I paid around $200 to have all of my rust fixed. The quarter panel, the fender well, and behind the bumper and had it painted the color of the car when it was green. Having new metal welded is always the best way.
ATX's DIY is a good solution for a temp. fix if you cannot afford to have it professionally done in a body shop. He did write up a good DIY, that's for sure!Adam - Retired OG member from '03

I can't believe on how much shops are costing to fix up rust on cars. I have rust on both of my back wheel wells, and a big chunk of rust down by the back door (actually i have rust on both sides) . Luckly I have a hook up and my buddy is only gonna charge me $250 to do it. Its gonna be done with in the next month. I'll get before/after pics up when it gets done. . .
