Need a new hood - and paint options

Had a minor accident yesterday, and I need a new hood. I've seen folks mention being able to get a Certifit hood for $40. I presume it would come unpainted and I would need to have it painted. How much would a cheap Maaco/Earl Schieb place charge to paint a hood?

Also, if I were to go the junkyard route, how much would I expect to pay for a hood there? Would it cost the same to have a junkyard hood painted?

okay man, i know absolutley zero about any of what you're talking about.

but.

waht i do know.

is the maaco/earl shieb paintjobs, they're basically you get what you pay for. you paa small price, you get a shitty paintjob. (i read all of this in the forums somewhere, just not sure where)

and they're all hit/miss. maaco is like mcdonalds, how they're owned and operated. some shops have some really good people working there, who know what they're doing. some...don't. like for instance, i was at wendys this past saturday, and thoes fuckers jipped me a large fry. i was so mad. but, it's a hit/miss. the other wendys in savanna hgave me large fries

junkyard, they shouldn't be to bad....just take like $100 with you, you should leave with more than half of it....hopefully...but like i said, i wouldn't know. just bring enough cash, and like i did my emblem, i got the guy down to 4 dollars. haha. and a junkyard hood should be around the same price as a brand new one, i would think.

Yea its true that you get what you pay for when talking paintjobs (and cars in general, really) but I think a hood would be no biggie as far as quality goes. The main concern with a Maaco paintjob is the lack of prep work that they do, that and overspray and such. But if you brought in a hood that you bought I am pretty sure they are primed ready to go, and not really a chance of overspray unless they REALLY suck and spray the rest of your car even though its out in the parking lot! Im not sure on price though. The best thing would be to just make some calls and search around. It most likely would be cheaper if you found one in your color at a junkyard that is in good condition. But that is kinda rare, at least at my junkyards, all the cars are damaged pretty bad.

Thanks for the help. This car is a daily driver (with rust over both rear wheels) so getting the exact match on paint isn't essential, but it would be nice to get it close.

Mostly, I'm curious to see how much folks are paying for hoods at Junkyards, and what kind of condition they're in. I can strip and prime a hood at home, but don't really trust painting it myself; if it's only going to cost $40 to have it painted.

painting just one part of your car you won't get a match in color...you have to fade...

Well I'm not concerned too much about color match. I'm looking for pricing on a hood and painting the hood, for the most part.
