Wiper Blade Arms

My wiper blade arms need to be repainted. Should I use flat black or semi flat?

Do they really need to be primered? I didn't think you had to do that.

i sanded mine down, and put a couple of coats of semi metallic spray (since i used the same spray on my grill). came out ok.

make sure to sand it down well so that the spray paint will stick. perhaps primer would help the paint to stick. :shrugs:

I just talked to a buddy at work and he said it would be a good idea so the paint will stick. Guess that solves that!

i think im going to re do my wiper arms soon maybe.. get a nice metallic silver goin on to match my car.. that would be pimp.

On mine I removed all the stock paint, scuffed up the arms, then used one layer of primer, then 3 coats of flat black, sand after everycoat, no need to wash, just blow off all the dust...then one final coat of gloss black...

It actually came out really well for some cheap spray cans, theres a DIY on here too, if you really want to get into it, and like ztech said search and you'll find at least one thread on it.

Well we had a interesting time painting today. The first blade went fine. I sanded them down real good, washed and dried them. We shot the primer and I don't think my buddy let it dry long enough, but it was OK. However when he was picking up the last wiper he dropped it and it stuck to the damn newspaper. And all of paint stuck to the paper. So it had to be completely sanded down again and redun.

I decided to go with the gloss black and I'm glad I did. It looks good.

Hope it turned out good accordme93, post some pics up...but next time maybe you'll listen when I say theres no need to wash off when you sand, because basically when you sand that also cleaning off all the exposed paint, so all you need to do is blow off all the dust and you'll have a good clean surface to paint on

i just sanded mine down and took this huge permenant marker and colored them.. it was pretty ghetto but after 2 months they haven't rubbed off at all, which suprises me in all this snow.

Well I installed the arms and I'm not exactly thrilled. I made a big mistake. What might that be you're probably asking yourself? I used a red primer. I should of used flat black for the primer. There is some red areas where I bumped into them with the wrench. Guess I'll take out a sharpie and do some touch up. I really just need to redo them, but they look better than the did.

What was I thinking!?!


Oh and yes I will be posting pics. That is something else that pissed me off. I got a digital camera for Christmas and used it for the first time Sunday to take pics of my car. Lets just say that you never want to buy a 1.3 megapixel camera. I'll get my buddy to take the pics on his better quality camera. I will post a profile in the members rides section.
