    painting my stock valve cover?

    hey i did a search and couldnt find anything about painting the stock valve cover has anyone tried it? if so can u tell me how to do it to where the paint is smooth and doesnt come off? any help would be appreciated

    I'm not an expert in this, but I think it needs to be powder coated. -OR- you could polish it.
    It really is a labor of love making a neglected CB7 with "normal wear and tear" into something worth being proud of.

          mines painted... Just sand the valve cover down and get some high heat engine paint. Comes out pretty nice looking... I'll let ya'll know how long it lasts but so far my buddy has done many like this and they all still look good.
          This pic does the valve cover no justice as it look a million times better in person.

            i like that painted one! looks good wut grit do u recomend using to sand it? cuz im going to use a sand blaster at school to take the factory paint off i just dont wanna sand it and paint it and there be sanding marks all through it. thnx

              Just sand off all the old paint and scuff up the surface with say a 1000 grit paper. You want the surface to be scuffed so the paint will stick... And then just apply paint until its all covered. if you see swirls, which you shouldn't, apply more paint to it until there gone... I think the a whole can of paint got used on my valve cover.

                ok thnx for the advice! do you think it would be ok to get the old paint off with a sand blaster?

                  I dont see why not. I did have mine hand sanded tho but I dont see any harm coming from using the blaster.

                    theres a great invention that can be found at schucks. its called Tal-Strip. buy a can of it and spray your valve cover. that will take paint off of anything. just spray water on it to get everything off. be VERY CAREFUL not to get it on your skin. your skin will bubble and peel off. it works like a charm, i used it.

                        well what i did was.. used paint stripper to get the oem paint off.. sanded it down real good.. taped off the lettering.. and then sprayed a couple layers or engine paint.. got it at auto zone.. turned out real nice

                          ok hers the process get paint stripper and color of high heat paint desired

                          shoot with paint stripper dont get it on your hands hurts like a mofo

                          spray off if all paint isnt removed spray again and concentrate on those areas

                          next clean througly

                          now scotch brite and clean again

                          now apply paint

                          watch paint dry

                          apply more paint

                          watch paint dry

                          let sit over night then clean it off or bake it then clean it off and install it with new valvecover gasket

                          the build and demise
                          buy stuff i want a new car
