Just wondering if anybody has used this film. It's also sold by other names(I think) and other brands. Most often people use this film to cover the first 12 inches or less of the front of their hoods on various vehicles. This can also be used to covor the whole front of the car as well as the front of the mirrors.
What I'm wondering is for the people that have used it, how do you like it, and is the edge of the film very visable, or hardly visable? Was it worth the price? How do you think it would look/work on a carbon fiber hood?
The reason I am wondering about this stuff is, I will be doing a 3000 mile trip and want to protect my hood in some way. I've gotten a quote on installing this stuff, and they told me, for just the front of the hood, for 6 inches high, it would be $150 CDN installed. What I'm wondering is, is this worth it to get this done as I mostly drive my car in the city and rarely go above 80 kilometers per hour. This option is semi-permanant.
The other alternative is to use a less permanant method of protecting the hood and some of the front end. 3M Clear Contact Film, or similar products, sold at places like Hope Depot in the wallpaper department. This could be easily applied to the whole front of the car with some cutting and stuff. And it would be much much cheaper as I would do it myself. This would be very temporary as this material doesn't stand up very long. This material would only be on the car for when I am actually travelling to and from my destination......when I reach my destination I would remove the film, and then re-apply new film for on my way back home. I've seen other people use even less sophisticated methods of front-end protection. When show cars travel across the country, they use green 3M automotive painter's tape to cover the whole front end and mirrors for when they are travelling, so that when they get to the show, all they have to do is remove the tape and the bugs and stuff are removed with it! Very effective, but not very appealing. Also I could also use clear packing tape too to cover vital front-end areas, but am concerned about whether residue would be left from any of these films, and how hard they would be to clean off.
Let me know what you all think, and what you have all tried. Keep in mind that I know that my car is not in top-quality show form, but my paint on the front-end, and carbon fiber hood is new, so I would like to protect it, by whatever means that may be.
Thanks.
