I've had some tint on my car for about 4 years now, got it like a week after I got the car. Problem is, two windows are starting to peel funny and it looks like crap, not to mention a rear vent glass does not have any tint cuz that's where it was broken into last. What's the best way to remove tint? I ask this before i go out and just start hacking away at it, but that's probably not the best way to go about it

razor blade with a handle(scraper style, heat gun, some adhesive remover, and some windex and a rag or two.
and as far as the rear window goes, i would get it done professionally, as i dont know how to get it off without it scraping off the lines to the rear window defroster.
good luck good sir.2010 Taurus SHO - Livernois Goodies

thank you kind chessboxer sir. I was going to leave the rear on for a while actually, its the mirror tint and really keeps the rays from the back area, but yeah until you mentioned the defroster things I would have been a dumbass and gone and shredded it to peices.

I removed the tint off my rear window by myself just with a razor blade..but i think i agree with gettin it done professionally, my defroster lines were fine and nothing happened to them but it is ridiculousy hard once u get into the corners just because its so cramped and what not...but u could do it yourself, but still id say go with a tint shop just to be safe and save yourself some time

Removing window tint
When i bought my car, it already had the windows tinted but I want to put a darker kind of tint to the windows so i was wondering if anyone could help me out and tell me a pretty easy way (if there is one) to remove tint. I'm retinting the car myself so im sure i'll mess up plenty of times too, i hear the back window is a SOB.

Good luck. I had to do this to a Camaro I had once and it was not fun. I also want to do it to my current CB7, but if I end up keeping the car I will either live with it or replace the windows. Especially the back window with the rear window defroster. If you nick even on of the defroster lines, it will not work. Had that problem on the Camaro.
But, if you want to try, get a heat gun, some razor blades, and some adhesize remover. Get the tint heated up with the heat gun and start pealing off with the razor bit by bit. Work slowly. Once you get it removed from a window, use the adhesize remover to remove the residue left on the window. I spent about 2 1/2 hours on the Camaro that was just the 2 side windows and the back window (which is quite big).Eric91Z

No problem and good luck. By very patient with the rear window and the defroster lines and you might be OK. Maybe this spring I will spare a little time now and then and work on removing the tint on mine. Just really paranoid on the rear window since I drive it year round here in Iowa and need that rear window defroster.Eric91Z

i had to take mine off(turned purple from age) and just used a hair dryer, and window tint remover from walmart but just to get the adhesive off. the rear is a sob. it will take the longest. the door windows took me about 30 min for the first then about 15 for the rest once i got the hang of it.... the key thing is to go slow there is no hurry if there is then dont do it. took me about 3.5 hours total and most of it was just trying to get the rear tint off
