filling in sidemarker hole. need some help.

i just bought a used set of fenders off of another board member. one already has a sidemarker installed, but i want it higher up on the fender, its directly above the side molding right now. i'm going to fill the hole and then re-cut for the sidemarker.

my question is: what do i need to do for the filler to be strong? do i weld some metal on the back side of the fender and then fill with bondo and sand for a nice finish? or is there a mesh i can use?

and another side question: how hard would it be to make some custom Z3 or formula fenders? i've got an extra set of fenders, all the equipment, some time on my hands, and the urge to do some custom work. just wondering, don't flame me for this.
I........love my car. Simple as that.

weld a piece of metal the size of the hole in, grind down weld lines, skim over w/ glass. easy as that.
