now before you read this, dont just reply with "its not worth the time" or "its not worth the money" or "its not worth the work,". i have plenty of money and time, and i need something fun to work on, ive been doing body work and petty stuff, i wanna do something big, so my question is, has anyone ever deleted a sunroof, i searched and everthing i came up with its deleting everything else. anyone ever do it?

Ive never heard of it being done. Not here anyway. The first thought that pops into mind would be getting a top piece from a BB4 and welding it in place but im not sure if they're the same size or not. Otherwise, Id think it'd just be a matter of ripping out all the associated wiring and motor(s) and getting all that crap out and then welding the hole shut. Even if you didnt use parts from other cars, I wouldnt think it'd be too difficult.

That way you dont have to worry about breaking or leaking glass.
I think its a cool idea. but its your project.

I would never delete the sunroof on my EX in a million years but if I was going to I would just take out the rubber rain channels, find the spotwelds, or if not just cut along the lines in the channels, detatch from supports between roof and headliner. And either take the windshield and rear glass out(you said you want a project) or if you're good at welding/bodywork you could probably cut a line before the window. Find a junkyard cb without sunroof, cut it out using the same method then line it up, tack, line up again, weld it all in, grind it down, smooth it out and u got a solid roof. I'm not sure how different all the structural braces are between the two but if you're cutting and welding anyways, take those from the car without the sunroof.
I hope that was easy to understand, I had it pictured perfectly in my head and I've seen it done a few times on other model cars, I've also seen this method used to install an oem sunroof.

nate i like your idea, i wanted to make a sort of plexiglass cover for it, something water tight, on the old bmw's and the t tops camaros, the have the little pivot handle that tightens the roof down or the t tops, i thought about that but it would be alot of work, im just trying to get ideas

yeah welding will warp the shit outta the roof. There's a cd5 on hondatech where the guy swapped roofs completely to get a moonroof. (exactly what bongo talked about) Didn't really seem all that bad besides the front and rear windshield removal. It has pics. Try searching google for cd5 roof swap hondatech.com. I tried to find it for you but couldn't. The link is somewhere on this site .....Last edited by I<3MyHonda; 05-26-2011, 12:25 AM.Life's a garden. Dig it.

I personally think that the best way to delete the sunroof would be to change the entire roof skin from a non-sunroof car. it would be alot less work in the long run and the chances of getting a leak somwhere wouldn't really exist. The hardest part to diy would be to R&I the front and back glass. After that its just body work. No more then changing a door skin.
