    Roof rack long term damage?

Didnt want to jack the thread below "roof rack fitment"....

Read on a Yakima fitment note:

The rubber door seals and/or trim may deform or be dameged under prolonged contact with any roof rack tower and/or clips. Remove rack when not in use.

Does anyone know if this is an issue? Its in reference to an older Yakima Y Tower kit but I guess it could hold true for any kit. Has anyone noticed damage as mentioned? I want a roof rack but want to keep it on the car all the time if I want to.

My mom had a yakima rack on her 87 accord all the time, it was probably on there 95% of the year for a couple of years. When they took off the rack where the tower sets on the roof the paint was pretty damaged. I'd say it rubbed most of the way through the clear. So I wouldn't recommend leaving the rack on all the time.

Left mine on all summer one year and some of the rubber was left on my paint, very minimal but still was noticeable. Another area is where the fairing hits the roof, mine leaves a mark there.
