Why not! I though that I had seen it all when they brought out the DIY roller paint jobs. As long as you can get the paint viscosity to work with the pressure of that gun, I don't see why it wouldn't work. Probably better than a roller.
Do you have access to an air compressor? If you do you could probably get a fairly good quality automotive HVLP gun for the same price. However I'm no paint pro, hopefully someone with some experience will chime in.
I have a $1500 compressor I can use but need to install a special 10amp power socket. the other one i can borrow is worth like 300 and i would probably spend more than 200 on the gun i bought.
his house is around the corner but I could get done for driving an unrego'd car...
would definitely get pulled over if i seen in this car.
hell i think i'll start painting the whole house after buying this thing.
$180 would buy a decent HVLP gun and since you have a kick ass compressor I would stick with a gun designed to paint cars... it's not easy to undo a mistake especially when it come to painting a car, and a added bonus would be you can paint other things and have a great finish. If you dont like the outcome, you wont just be able to respray it - you'll have to strip it all.
I was going to say I hope you aren't looking @ a Wagner but turns out you are! Those electric sprayers have a pulse spray to them - I would assume runs in the paint if your going to try it and I am not sure about putting automotive paint trough it (auto paint is usually half reducer which may melt or damage the internals of that gun)
Painting is the easy part - it's all about prep. I have tought a few guys how to paint and they had cheap-o's from Harbor Freight - they sprayed alright but wth they were $50!
Hope this helped, as a ASE master body guy I always try to keep people away from rattle cans and especially rollers!
Oh and a 10A outlet is nothing major, 15A is a normal outlet so I would guess its just a different plug.
