    painted interior panels vs. heat

So I live in Hawaii, and im looking to paint my interior panels. I've searched for/found numerous DIY's on the proper procedures for painting the interior, but none of them clarify how well the new paint will hold up to heavy heat. im worried that if I go about murdering the interior that everytime I leave the car out in the open sun(which is every day) then it's going to smell like spray paint all in my car, even possibly melting. does anybody have some info on this? is this something I can still do without having to worry about the paint melting?

I think you'll be ok, since I have a few spray painted pieces of my car's exterior that havent "melted" yet. I highly recommend using SEM Landau black for a OEM like finish. I found that spray paint loses most of its odor within the first week, even after being in the sun.

The interior of your car is never going to get hot enough to damage traditional spray paints or dyes. If it does, the paint on the outside of your car is going to be affected as well. Use a vinyl/upholstery dye as opposed to spray paint, it really does a better job as it bonds with the surface rather than coating it.

I've done some small interior pieces before, and my ex brother in law did an entire RX7 interior in black, and after it cured, you couldn't tell it wasn't factory original, even after sitting through bright sunny days of temps in the high 90's with the windows rolled up. It still looked like a new interior when he sold the car after a year or two.

VHT and Duplicolor both have a very good product.

thank you guys for the replies. Visualpoet im not really looking to paint any fabric interior, im just looking to paint the plastic parts of the interior, like the center console, interior door handles, headliner trim etc. would you still use the vinyl paint for those pieces? also what kind of clearcoat would you guys recommend? im gonna try do a piece or two in the wagon and see how it goes.

Same stuff, yes. It's designed to bond with the synthetic materials better. I would NOT recommend a clearcoat.
