i'd say that his statement was hard headed, but we've all got our opinions...
anyway, if you can post up some pics after your first try with an agressive polish or rubbing compound accordz, i, or others might be able to give some help if you want to go a little more agressive. it might also help in the future for people to see the results you've gotten.
a little extra advice... on the rubbing compound, use back and forth motions, with light to moderate pressure. this way any marring that you might creat can easily be buffed out in the next step. also before you start, a good claying will go a long way, that through the polishing is 90% of the shine, regardless of what wax you use.
but compounding will take the position of the claying so the clay bar is no longer needed.
if u use swirl remover then it may not feel smooth to the touch at times so u use clay then.
but right now get that oxidation out.
What makes me laugh about forums, is that no matter how much you try to help someone, they dont take the advice. Go ahead and do it the hard way.
You got to respect what you drive, and appreciate what you have, making the best of what you got. and if that means putting CAI, HID's, a phat stereo system, and a idiot in the drivers seat...then so be it!

i can't say that i'd trust a compound to do the job of clay since they serve different purposes. maybe it's that i'm overly anal about the cars that i deatail, i'd never deny being stubborn.
even so, assuming compounding will be sufficient, i'd still suggest claying the car since you're not going to need to compound the entire car.
u got a point but haha i think we moved from the issue, oxidation....
yes if u clay u may not need the compound but the compound does many other things that clay cannot as well.

thats the CB7 i am trying to buy has that white stuff pretty much all around the hood roof and trunk. i know it needs a paint job big time and i plan on geting it painted once i can save enuff but what could i do to prevent any more damage from happing to the car so that it dosent oxidize and after i get it painted what should i do to mantain it ? i know wash, wax but what do you guys recomed
if you take it to a body shop and ask them to strip the clear coat and re spray it they only charge 550-700 for labor and paint. It is a great deal. my co workerhad itdone on his formula and it looks like NEW.
"you can catch me swoopin 4G coupin switchin lanes" haha haha.

well guys...today when i was vaccuming the inside of my car i decided i would try and use my moms bmw wax that she has for her car on the white spots and i was surprised that it worked fairly well...it did a very good job at minimizing the white spots...i just wonder how long it will last...
ill post pics later

been there so i can empathise, the best part of my case is that one of the things they stole was by cobra radar detector. at least i had the peace of mind that they would end up with a lot of speeding tickets with that p.o.s.
as far as the bmw wax, i've heard that they just use relabeled stuff from meguiar's...was it a liquid or paste, aerosol maybe (honda loves this crap)

the pic dosent really show it well
that will come off with a buffer and a bit of polish.
also a body shop doesnt strips a clear coat, they sand it then repaint.

The clear coat on that (Jay's) would have to be sanded all the way off, to ensure that it doesn't start peeling under the fresh paint. In essence "stripping" it. But the car in that pic probably can be buffed out and you wont be able to tell there was ever a problem.
1990 Protege SE DOHC swap
1991 Accord DX Coupe
1992 Accord LX
those were done with only 3m fine cut rubbing compound by hand. and actually the accord picture didnt have a top coat of wax nor polish....that car is neglected pretty bad...has 450k on it though =).
the corolla 86 is very neglected, as u can see in the paint there are spots that are just not able to come out, but hey its shinny, thats with a top coat of s100 wax.
this one here is a 91 accord white, good condition but really hazy, and not even really a white any more.
you can see the seperation of "haze"
and this is another
if the pics dont work come back later. hehehe

I've got the same problem on my car (black '93). I think I'm just going to save up for a paint job, mabye this summer, but I'll probably just wait until I graduate. A college campus is hell on the appearance of a car.
Nothing really to add, just wanted to say this has been a very informative thread. Nice to know I'm not the only one with this problem.
