Ok, looks like i'm going to get the ECU first before the turbo. I found a Used P06 from a 92-95 civic. is that what I need? and I also need a chip burner. where can i get that from, and what kind of chips do i need. and I guess i also need to download Chrome. can i get it from the Chrome Website. Anything else that i need? Will i have to tune it as soon as i get it? I'm New to this so i'm just seeing what i need. thanks

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)
Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.
These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.
1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.
2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.
3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.
4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.
The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.
The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Yeah, My bad about the Crome. I see now you hate when people say it like that. Anyway. I've been reading up on the Whole ECU thing. Alot to learn i see and i'm willing to learn. It's just the fact that there is little bits of info in a lot of different places. so i read your how to chip article. Makes sense, but i'm not the greatest solderer and i don't want to mess up an ECU that I just Bought.... so i see you can get them pre chipped from Moates. Not a big deal, The thing that i don't like is that i have to go for a run and come back and cut the car off and read the chip and make changes then. Seems like it would take a long time that way. So i found the Ostrich. To my understanding If i hook that up(havn't read into that yet) I will be able to get real time feedback on my laptop. so if i'm crusing down the road at half throttle, My computer will say that, along with the current air/fuel ratios and that stuff. and from there i can adjust my tuning. but with the free Version of Crome i can't adjust tuning.... so whats the point of it. I won't be boosted at first so it will give me more time to learn, but what exactly am i tuning? and if i have the ostrich i won't have to have an air/fuel gauge right? because it will be on my computer...... but after all this complicated stuff, with the SAFC couldn't i just plug it in do my thing and it'll be a whole lot easier? I understand you can do a whole lot more with the chipped ECU especially if im boosting in a few months but can't you do the same with a piggyback?
And If i'm completely missing something, lemme know.
Wideband O2 + LC/1 hookup
P06 ECU
Ostrich 2.0
Usb Cable
Chip Burner???? Will i still need with the Ostrich
Eproms??? Same?^
Laptop
I think the Ostrich Replaces the Need for a chip burner and chips because the ostrich is basically a real-time Chip burner and feedback option... hmm.... Help? lol im Starting to understand parts and i def. think it would be a good idea to do all this BEFORE shoving lots and lots of air into my high mileage(SUPER EXTREME) crusing sedan's motorCOOL!!! < My Ride> '93 EX F22A6

The ostrich lets you make changes on the go, without having to pull over and turn your car off. You CAN use it with the free version of Crome. It's a real time emulator, not a data-logger. It doesn't give ANY feed back.
If you want feed back from the ecu, then you need to purchase a data-logging cable. Only Crome Pro lets you data-log, free doesn't. There are other options of data-logging without Crome Pro; ie Freelog or any logging software your wide band came with.
You can use an AFC if you wish, but it doesn't have the same adjustability as a tuned/chipped ecu. They work, but there are much better options. If you choose to use one instead of a chipped ecu only because you can't understand how to tune or are able to afford a tuner, that's all on you.
Just to let you know, AFC's don't let you retard your ignition timing. With boost, you will need to retard timing at the distributor, which will cause for poor bottom end performance. You're also limited on the amount of retard you can do.

I am also trying to gather all the parts I need to tune myself. I would definitely stay away from AFCs.
d112crzy made a very good point about ignition timing. An AFC will actually advance your timing whether you like it or not because of the way it works. It may be very dangerous with boost. You can find a lot of info about how AFCs work on homemadeturbo.com.
And yes, you should buy a chip burner even if you have Ostrich. That way you can burn a chip when you are done tuning instead of leaving everything plugged in.
Also to answer the question what exactly you are tuning:
You are tuning your fuel and ignition. You should read about how fuel injection works, how an ECU works, learn about open and closed loop, learn about how the ECU uses the information it gets from various sensors( 02,TPS,CTS,MAP to name a few important ones), learn about short term adaption and long term adaption.
It does take some time to learn about it but it will pay off in the end. You will know how to get the maximum power with your set-up and you will never think about an AFC.
