ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

    Timing belt/head problems

Ok so my timing belt went about 3-4 months ago and I'm finally getting around to work on my honda. I got the timing cover off(nobody told me what a pain) and got the valve cover off and etc.

The timing belt is shredded into pieces and i went to pull it out and it kinda just ripped in half from where i guess it must still be in place on the bottom.

anyways out of all 16 valves, 8 sets, 1 set is down. I've always wanted to know by bent valves, is that what you guys mean? Anyways yea so all the rest are back and 2 are compressed.

The head is full of oil and i got a full pan of oil. That means that my block probably survived, correct?

Anyways so what should I do with those 2 valves. I was told to take the rocker arm off and see if they spring back but I don't see how to do that.

In other words, from what it seems is that on the camshaft, the parts on the camshaft that hit the rocker arms only 2 of them got misplaced or w.e it is?

You know how theres number listed 2,3,4,5.

It's the one corresponding with 3. the one closest to you as if you were looking at the engine from the front.

    What should I do?

Typically with bent valves, it's easiest to just get a nice head out of a junkyard and swap it on. Otherwise, you're probably going to have to invest in some valves and either a)change them yourself or b) give them to a machine shop and have them do it.

Or, you can look at it like I did, and swap. Same thing happened, timing belt snapped on my Prelude S and shredded into a million pieces. I didn't even take my head apart. I found an H22 for $500 and said, "Ok, upgrade!"

Well, most likely your valves are bent. A bent valve means that the valve was open when the timing belt broke. Because that belt is what makes the camshaft turn, and thus makes the valves open and close, what happens is the pistons keep turning for a few revolutions before they stop. because there is no synchronization between the valve train (camshaft+valves) and the pistons/crankshaft, some of the valves almost always get hit by the pistons as the pistons come around (because the valve is open, and extended into the chamber). When that happens, the valve stem gets bent, which causes the valve to not close all the way. A car can run with a bent valve, but because it doesn't seal the engine will lose power.

If they are bent (most likely), you either have to redo the valves (or have a machine shop do it), or just go and get a complete head from a junkyard and put it on (the easiest way to go about it).

Ok so then, your saying if I do replace the timing belt I could have a chance that it'll still start, it's just going to have wayyyyyyyyy less power? Correct?

so then from what I'm seeing, I have 2 bent valves out of the 16. 1 set near the 3rd cylinder, which I also have low compression in the 3rd one when I brought it in for a tune-up one time.

so two valves sticking up(not sealing chamber) means it's bent?

correctamundo, also look down the port and see if you see light on the other end.

I do that by having to take rocker arm off than the valves?

Is that little nut on the top part of the valve the job to take it off? If I see light, I'm guessing that's really really really bad lmao.

yea make sure the valve is closed from the cam if that makes any sense.

to close all the valves, you'll have to take the rocker assembly off.

Eh, I'm selling it as a mechanic's special 300 dollars.

The only thing I'm taking out are the subs because I need them.

I dont have the tools, time, and money right now to do this. The only 3 things you need.
