ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Please tell me you mean you trimmed the plastic cover, not the belt... you shouldn't have to trim any of it, unless something damaged it.

A simple way to figure out which belt is causing the problem is to take the PS belt off, start the car, and see if it squeals. If it still squeals, then your Alternator belt is the trouble maker. If it doesn't squeal, it's the PS belt. Either you need to tighten it up or loosen it. You should be able to flex it between 1/2-1/4 inch either direction when you have it right.

I also have the same problem, really hate that sounds. Its an (ACURA CL "98) I replaced a Acura CL Steering rack (don't know if its gonna work on you)power steering belt is the main cause, check to see if its too tight. there should be no more than 90 degrees of deflection (twist) in the belt at its furthest point, check between the A/C compressor and the crank pulley for it. replace it and drive on. Hope it works...

All right it is the alt. belt but this may seem wierd or not i dont know much about cars or whatever. But i rememberd that when i got the car i put a big battery in it and it squeeled like it does now. I had it running with a 98' sentra battery until my head gasket blew. Different story but right now I disconnected the battery and it stoped squeeling so maybe its my battery? I dont know what kind goes into it but right now its got a battery from a 93' legacy.

Dude, something seriously doesnt sound right there..... You removed your battery, and it stoped squealing... IMHO... thats one messed up problem. If the alternator is in fact the culprit why didnt you replace it already.

I took it to auto zone and they said it was good (the alt). I dont know if this is the problem the battery i mean cause it is from a different car.

power steering pump could be leaking fluid onto the belt, i currently have that same problem but dont have 170 bucks to replace a pump, i just took the belt off. who needs power steering anyway

its very hard to find alt rebuild kits, part stores dont even sell them because of competition reasons. well atleast where i live

well i know this is going to sound silly, but have you tried shooting some belt dressing on it? that happened with me on my camaro even after i replaced the belt with a new one. a can should run you about 3 bux so you really have not much to lose. if that doesn't do the trick then move on to the more expensive alternatives

autozone has some belt dressing in those little packets, maybe try that? you apply it under the belt and its supposed to reduce the noise.

Hey I did the belt dressing stuff and strayed it on while the belts were moving and it splashed all over the damn place and there is this sticky residue.

I also sprayed a little on the mounts to see if that would do anything to them... hopefully good. and I dont think its done a damn thing but Ive noticed more squeal after wards and obviously a bigger mess.

it honestly doesnt bother me cause this car is rust bucket I just bought for getting around town. but if there is a simple fix like retorqing the bolts or pulley than i might have to try it.
