ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Brake piston boot leaking....i need to fix it somehow

lately i've been getting a delayed brake pedal response, from when i press the pedal to when they actually grab. It really only happens during low speed braking in the parking lot. I found out, tonight, by taking apart the caliper bolts, and viewing the piston that it has a tear in the boot and is seeping fluid. This is on the pass. front brake caliper. Is there any way to seal this temporarily? I'm doing the Vigor caliper swap soon but i need this caliper to work til March. I can tell its leaking b/c of the paint flaking, and whenever i apply a little pressure to it, fluid comes out. The thing is, I've been driving like this for probably a year and thought it was just "normal", at least that's when my hawk pads were put in. Here's the damage:

There is no way to seal this.

It means that the O ring behind the boot is leaking also, since the O-ring keeps the fluid in, and the boot protects the o ring.

It is just a matter of time before it goes, so keep an eye on it. It might make it until you are ready for the brakes, or it might not. It is hard to say.

okay i guess i'll just watch the fluid, it only needs to last 1 and a half more month's then its junked anyways. Do you think rubber cement or silicone would suppress the fluid leak at all?

Nope. It'll eat through. Go to autozone and get the caliper rebuild kit without the piston. Its very cheap. It comes with the boot and ring. Thats what I'm doing to my nissan.

I put it all back together, started the car, And thank god the pedal was firm. So hopefully that seeping is covered by the folds in the piston boot. But for now, i'm gonna take it Real Easy while braking. It doesn't seem to be leaking fluid as of now, i pressed the pedal 10x and it's still firm so lets hope it stays that way for the time being.

If the fluid is getting out, it is because the pressure seal is bad. There is no way to mend that.

I am pretty sure that mending the boot won't fix or even delay the issue.

Your best hope is that it lasts. I can also tell you from experience that when it goes completely, you will know. It will leak pretty heavily, leaving a stream inside the tire and wheel, and the pedal will drop to the floor.

Make sure you keep your speeds and distances reasonable for the e-brake, just in case.

make sure its that the calpier is the problem u can cheeck if its the master cylinder by clamping the 4 hoses of at each caliper and if it goes to the floor then its the (Master Cyl.) if u can push it a little then it gets hard ur master ok and if its completly hard the its th brake booster... if u going to do a rebluid kit do both the front ones... dontt forget to oil the Square cut seal main seal to keep fluid in )and bleed the whole system with new brake fluid at the calipers/lines/master cylinder.... good luck

yeah i'm pretty sure all the problems are a result of having that tear in the boot. I'm soon going to be putting remanufacutured vigor calipers on, w/ new pistons, boot, slides, everything, so I probably won't rebuild this caliper.
