ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    Turbo An auto?

    Hey there folks

As the title says I want to turbo my f22a1 in my 90accord.
As some reading the main reason everyone loves to boost these engines is because it has iron sleeves and a slightly lower compression.
I have also read that the stock f22a1 head is very horrible when bigger power is applied.

There are a few questions I want to ask.

    1. I want to look at either swapping a h22 vtec head or a h23. Which requires less work?
    2. What amount of boost would be appropriate for a 120k mile engine?
    3. Are there any other possible tuning options besides Greddy Emanage Ultimate?
    4. What are the stock axles hp rating?

My basic plan is to take my friend TD04 off of his 1995 Saab 9000 Aero, The TD04 he is giving me is capable of 21psi max.

This will be my first ever turbo design.
(I say design because turbo builds I have done. Its just putting the pieces together. I havent selected them myself and for tuning purposes. Hence why I use Design)

For the TM I plan to scrap the current Prelude Turbo manifold Plan and remake it to the Accord.

Now Injector wise and such Whats an appropriate cc? I was think 600ish but some of my friends said 1000cc for extreme versatility and tunning accuracy

For Exhaust Im figuring 3', no cat, triple resonator, mandrel bent. Sound good?

I've heard a upgrade in valvetrain is a necessity but I dont want to do internals until the engine gives and I have to rebuild

For intake to the turbo I was planning on Adding a Weapon-R Secret Weapon intake to the turbo so that its taking air from the way bottom. (I understand what will happen on wet days)

For the IM i was just planning on a small port on the TB and maybe some smoothing on the inside of the manifold.

Since the turbo is internal wastegate the only thing I can really get is a Boost Controller. (Had a really good one on the last turbo project. Only 25 bucks)

For the Misc, 2.5 Intercooler piping, with a Greddy Type S BOV (if I can Find it), NGK Platinum Plugs, NGK Power Plugs.

I would also like suggestions from all of you as well:
My friend already suggested a Msd 6Al blaster coil and a VAFC if I get the head

    Thanks all for your time

Yeah that to give you an idea of what im working with stock.

Yeah I know I do that stupid thing with the gas where I left off a bit to switch. Its not because I pretend to own a manual. Its just a old driving tick

Yes I know I sound funny on the video

Yes I also know im barefoot

      1. Swapping a h23 head is easier and makes more sense, but for the cost of everything and the work, you might as well just buy a h23. Swapping a h22 is just inaeffective because you can not rev it to 7400 rpms to get the power you need, the f22 bottom end can not rev that high

      2. People run 8-10psi with a good tune, need to check compression in all cylinders and see you motor is even worth boosting. Doesnt matter how many miles, just how well its been taking care of.

      3. Other eingine management systems are AEM EMS, HONDATA, CROME, and UBERDATA, CROME is really popular because its free as well, and up to date

Oh the f22a1 is a great platform for boost and flows really well, somebody told your wrong. 3 inch exhaust is okay, i wouldnt use 3 resonators though, seems pointless, just a turbo muffler from dynomax if you want to be quiet. You dont need to upgrade your valvetrain if you dont have the cam that requires it. VAFC are shit anyways
Keep your stock head if boost, ask anybody, on the forums. If you type in f22 boost in the search engine, you can find lots of other information. Searching is going to be your best friend on this website

          Well......
Damn It seems no old honda can take it.

my only problem with the Tranny swap... well I've failed the only one I've tried.
It was on my 88 prelude 2.0si from auto to manual.
I read the instructions and manuals for months and then re read them while doing it but Im a guy who is extremely visual based learning. More pics than words.

So should I continue the turbo design or just start working on parts for the tranny swap?

get the parts for the tranny swap, there are plenty of useful people on this website, who will be more than happy to help not to mention a lot of information about 5 speed swaps

heres a decent write up, its for a 5th generation accord but it should be essentially the same deal, if you have any questions, search because they might have been already asked, or just post in the beginners forums, cant get flagged for that

Well I think I saw it on the prelude forums one day.
You could potentially swap a DOHC with A SOHC head.
The blocks in certain patterns. The only thing that would be different is perhaps the cooling passages

Yes. DOHC heads have been swapped onto the SOHC blocks many times, although there is some fabrication necessary. H22 and H23 heads seem to be pretty popular, although the F22B head has been swapped on a few times as well. A search for "head swap" should come up with decent results. You can also sift through the "Swaps" sub-forum.

IMPO, swapping to a manual will provide much better results in the long run. The parts can be had for a few hundred dollars and there is plenty of information (and helpful members!!! ) here to make the swap quick and painless. When that job is complete, you'll have far fewer long-term issues when you do put together your turbo setup. I'd recommend sticking with the F22A1 head, however. With a decent port job, it can flow as well as (or better than) either of the H heads, and will bolt back on with NO modification necessary.

Good luck and have fun with it!

if i were you and still wanted to turbo, look into a dsm setup, turbos off of gst elclipses, little modification to fit, and seems to be really popular with our cars. Other than that just build a custom kit, a whole lot cheaper, still using name brand parts

Having to repeat myself tends to irritate me. Sift through the "Swaps" subforum and you'll find quite a few threads detailing swapping H22/H23 and F22B heads onto the F22AX blocks.
