Before I start, I have a 1990 lx sedan automatic trans. Now for the problem..
The car runs fine everyday, never been beaten on(I never have, previous owners not so sure) and I keep it pretty well maintained. Anyway, a few months ago, I went to the gas station, filled up and started the car. I look down and see the sports light on. I never use it so I looked down at the shifter and the button isn't pushed in. I'm thinking the light blub must be bugging out so I decide to go home. I put it in D4 and push the gas, the car goes but drags like no tomorrow. I stop, put it in park, put it back and gear and try again..same result. I turn the car off and turn it back on, sports light is on again. I give it alittle gas and it drags like before. Now I'm getting mad because I don't feel like leaving the car and walking home. I try it one more time and sure enough, the light isn't on. I'm sitting there confused but happy and try to get home. The moment I put it in gear, I hear clicking sounds coming from the gear selector area and the sports light blinks on and off then stays on.
I'm tired of playing with the car so I just drive home since it's about 3/4 of a mile down the road. The car drags at first but drives normally once it gets up. I'm driving along, looking down at the rpm guage cause it's almost past the 3500 mark and I'm wondering when it's going to shift. It never down and it's like it's in one long gear. Thankfully, home isn't too far, I park it in my usual spot, get out, say a few words to the car and come in the house. This past weekend, I'm preparing to make a little drive, all is fine. I drive maybe 3-4 miles and the clicking sounds/sports light problem occurs. Maybe after 30 minutes of just letting the car sit there, I start the car and there's no problem. I drive it 130+ miles to where I needed to go and back with no problems. I driven the car only once since I went on my trip. No problems. Now, I always hear the clicking sound in the gear selector whenever I push in the brake pedal. Not quite sure why it does that but when it was having it's little porblem, there was no clicking sound when I push down on the pedal like it usually does.
Sorry for the long read but I tried to give as much detail as possible. The car only done this twice(two different days) but I don't want to be somewhere and it happens again.
Any idea on what it is? Could it be the sports function messing with my transmission?
Thanks for the help.
