ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.
2 of 2 < >

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Read them. You will be expected to follow them.

One quart down on oil is still more than the engine needs. That's only on the add mark, so its not an oil level/amount issue. The dipstick only reads about two quarts, there's still about two more quarts left once the dipstick can't reach it. Not sure how low it has to get before the pickup draws air, but I'd guess its pretty low.

You could pull the valve cover and watch for oil flow to the valve train. Or an actual oil pressure gauge would be great to confirm PSI is OK. Either way. If there's flow/pressure, change the pressure switch and go from there. I wouldn't condemn the engine just cause it uses some oil, especially at WOT. Just check the oil every week or so and keep driving.

Oh alright. I assumed the one quart brought it all the way to the full mark. Makes more sense now.

And yeah, I HAVE an oil gauge...just, haven't gotten around to hooking it up

haha, naw its just a cheap AutoZone one, its worth about the cost of shipping haha. And its installed in the car, just the tube is kinda...dangling behind the engine. I'll hook it up this spring or maybe get an electrical one to replace it.

So what's up with the car now anyways?

BTW, never check your oil after your have just turned the engine off because most of the oil is up in the engine, not in the pan. Wait about 5 minutes to check.

If there was no oil on your dipstick, then you had to add MORE than 1 quart of oil to bring it back to proper level, that is fact. 1 quart will not do it. 1 quart low if you were previously topped off in oil will not cause your oil light to come on at all. Therefore, you were probably 3 quarts or more lower and possibly have a good oil leak somewhere or are consuming/burning oil at a good rate and this caused the low oil level.

Blowing out smoke out your exhaust, depends on the density of the smoke and color, but follow those signs and investigate, it will show you where your problem is. I can not help you anymore based on your descriptions.

Do a leakdown test on your cylinders, that may point you somewhere.

idk but for some odd reason 1 qt put it back to level it dont make sence..but it turned the light off and bring me back to level and as for the compresstion test ill have that done very soon cuz i do need one...

honestly with the miles on your car i would just change it and start fresh. new filter and 5 fresh quarts of penzoil 10-40. yea yea its a thick oil and not what is recommended but it is better i think for seals, valves, ect. and doesn't have as much of a burn off cause its thick. and if 40F is cold to you 10-40 will be fine. im from va it was 11 at my house yesterday morning and the f22 cranked right up with 20-50 in it. after 267,000, miles mine burns a little oil too if its like 5W-30 or 10-30 so i use i thicker oil. and the oil light shouldn't come on unless its really low, i've never seen my light blink. good idea to just check everytime to fill up wit gas. never hurts to be safe.

                              the rebuild!
