Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

    I feel stupid for asking..

    I guess I have a couple questions, most of which I was a little embarrassed to type out but here goes nothing.

    -I'm looking under the hood of my car. I just had the car running. Pool of oil on top of headers.



    I have a snapped bolt on the top of my valve cover and I have a new valve cover gasket. I dont know how in depth in the rocker arm assembly I need to go to replace bolt but if I replace those should that solve the problem? Oil wouldn't for any reason be coming from my exhaust ports would it? That doesnt really make sense.

    -Front right side. Next to where stock air box sits. Black box. I read what was once, I forgot, not the point haha. This.. whatever it is looks like it sits in this hole.. however the line is too short.





    Ta da. Is that circular fun pod supposed to sit in that hole? Why is the line too short all of a sudden? Can I cut shorter line to replace? Once the line is long enough, does the circular fun pod require any type of adhesive to stay in place?

    -Vinyl piece that slides back and forth on the inside of the sunroof. Several holes punctured through. Would like to replace. How intense in that to replace?

    no that plunger went in the stock airbox tubing

    the bolt for the valve cover is easy to replace

    the sunroof cover I've never done. but see here

      oh woah, very good link, thank you. So could I just take that plunger and line out completely form the black box and have the port exposed? Or should I do that and then plug the hole?

        You can remove the tube at the intake manifold and cap the port. The black box and its tubing can be removed. The plug can be left dangling. Assuming you've replaced the intake with an after-market piece which I can only assume you have.

        You don't want to leave a vacuum leak.

          haha yes I have an aftermarket intake.. its no on yet. I'm doing the h23 plenum swap as well. So sorry if this is just a little redundant but I can take the black box out completely as well as the lines and just plug up the hole on the manifold?

          and what about my wet header? will a replacement bolt and valve cover gasket fix that?

            I believe it will, I mean theres no oil seal on the front of the block or in or around the header, it must be coming from the valve cover gasket and it will leak with a snapped bolt

            just remember, 7 ft-lbs

                the oil is coming from the snapped bolt. i had the same problem a few months ago when i changed my valve cover gasket. get a new bolt from the dealership or a junkyard and it will fix all ur problems.

                  Its probly the valve cover gasket, but I have actually seen oil leak out the exhaust of an engine (4g63) when left idling for awhile. You could see it leak out of the cracks in the manifold. Some Risoline (sp?) engine flush and a few short oil changes pretty much cured it. Mechanic suspected restricted oil return ports forcing oil down the exhaust valve stems. I believe that's how be worded it, but it makes sense, since owner said first oil change after getting the car came out like tar.

                    you gotta realize the 4g63 is a turbo motor and its gonna make the oil all nasty when running at that kinda temperature. dude said he has a vavle cover kit so all he has 2 do is fix the valvecover bolt and the kit comes with a new grommet for the bolts so that will fix his leak.

                      Otto knows this, he was just pointing out that it IS possible to have oil come out of the exhaust ports. Nothing wrong with spreading knowledge.

                        excellent, seeing oil on the outside of my engine unless it's during an oil change is never a pretty thing. My local dealer as well as NAPA is like my second home now, so I guess if I just bring in a picture they'll know what I'm talking about since I don't know the exact name of the bolt. Maybe I can pick one up today. Thanks a lot fella's !

                          not to be a dick but the 4g63 motor is na the 4g63t motor is the turbo motor i have seen the same thing as ottoand yes it comes from clogged ports, but you all are right in this one it is the broken bolt and gasket.

                            excellent, I just stopped off at the dealer and I would have been better off hitting up the junk yard ! It's $8 for that god damn thing. And I guess the passenger and drivers side valve cover bolts are different sizes. Oh well, at least I can fix my oil leak now.

                              well clean ur motor when ur done, run it for a few miles, and let us know if it fixed the problem.
