ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

    Oil Drain Plug

Ok don't let my post count and regional moderator stats fool you. But I just did my first oil change.

My oil pan plug thread was stripped by one of the oil change shops months ago and I was not even notified about it.

While I was doing my oil change I noticed the plug was not tight and I tried to tighten it up but it won't tighten anymore because the pan was stripped.

Thing what I can do now is:
    - Put the bolt in and bomb it with sealant until it hardens

So question is , do you guys have any tricks before I go spending some money?

I also want to out a bigger bolt in for the time being. If it's a good idea what kind of bolt will I use?

    TIA.

My plug leaked horribly, so what I did was get a 17MM plug from honda and then re-threaded the pan for 17mm, no leaks so far!
    wat?

So rethreading is my only option or replace the oil pan itself, then. haha thanks.

I believe you can get self tapping bolts that are hollow, which you screw into the oilpan, and allow you to put another bolt inside. That's what we did on my dads truck.

        Code:
        ________
        Oil Pan |
                 |__
                 | |--| < Little bolt inside self-tapping hollow bolt inside oilpan.
        big bolt>|__|--|

I would just retap it. Just be sure to take out the lil bits of metal that go in the pan. This is where a magnetic drain plug comes in handy. But rethread and get another bolt from honda as mentioned. Well the bolt is kind of optional depending on how the threads are. If they looked fucked up get a new one they dont cost much. If you have money to spend a magnetic one wouldnt be bad to invest in.

get a re tap. its better than sealing it up. also a new bolt haha
there are tools that do that too. go to any hardware shop and ask about re taping or something.
            its a easy fix

i stripped my oil drain plug in my old subaru and my dad had a kit to tap it for a bigger plug so i'm on the retap it and put a bigger plug in it bandwagon as well...
back to do it again... no flipping of accords this time!!!

Most of the time you can get a new drain plug and it will clean up the threads on the pan no problems or you can get a oversize one wich pretty much recuts the pan it start off as a taper and gets a little bigger towards the head and cuts new treads

Thanks for the help guys. I'll go the retap route then.

Eh nothing much I can do this evening except pray that sealant hold it off for a week.

I'm hella screwed because this is what I get for school and work combo and not much time fixing and shit. I wanna do it myself instead of spending lots of money for an easy task.

I'll just have to check the oil before going.

So the tapping should be 17mm , correct?

The head of the bolt is 17mm as for the thread I forgot what diameter and pitch it was. Maybe the honda people know? Anyone got a service diagram handy lol.
