ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

    newbie - oil leak ?

I am trying to diagnose and hopefully fix a major oil leak in a 93 accord.

It is coming from the timing belt area. After researching this forum I assumed it would be the front balance shaft seal. When I got the timing belt cover off I found the front seal was fine but there was a large leak that appears to be coming from the rear balance shaft.

Any suggestions on what could be causing a leak from that area? Ideas on how to fix it?

    Thanks

replace them both and get a balance shaft seal retainer from Honda. its no more than like $8. but the balance shaft seals are more prone to walking out because they are spinning twice the speed of the motor. when the RPMs are at 5,oooRPMs the balance shafts are spinning at 1o,oooRPMs. at 7,oooRPMs, its at 14,oooRPMs. thats like 1st gear in a formula 1 car.

go to honda and buy a balance shaft seal retainer and install it. its the most common thing on our hondas to fail because they spin so fast.

      rear balance shift seal ?

      Thanks for the quick response.

I bought a "retainer" from Honda to put in to keep the front balance shaft seal in place. But I can't seem to find a rear balance shaft seal. Does the same seal fit on both the front and rear balance shafts?

The parts guy at Honda offered what he called on oil pump gasket (fits between oil pump housing and balance shaft gear case). Given the volume of oil coming out it seemed unlikely to me that the problem was coming from a leaking gasket.

      Your thoughts?

x2 and while your at it you should replace the rest of them (cam, crank, and both balance shaft seals) and if you T-belt is soaked with oil, I personally would replace it.
