ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    What Improves "Fuel Economy"?

What can I do to my 92 Coupe LX 5spd to improve my fuel economy?

I have done a full tune up, fuel filter etc.

    I have a SRI.

Would an h23 IM and a DC header improve MPG?

    Cleaning my EGR?

    What else?

    #2
I'd say restricting your intake and exhaust would....reduce hp and tq to improve mpg.

But in a more sensible approach, clean the EGR system, replace wear components like cap and rotor, plugs, wires, igniter/coil, pcv, air filter

Whatever you can afford that hasn't been done in a while

Interesting. For some reason I've always had the thought that if the engine flows better then you would have better mpg.

Actually, removing those restrictions will allow for a more efficient motor, as you're reducing pumping losses, thus increasing fuel mileage.

Make sure your tires are properly inflated, your timing is set correctly, you have a fresh fuel filter, etc, etc. All of this will help your bottom line mileage.

About tire inflation. Apparent the steelies should be at 30psi but my tires say 40psi on them, what should I be at?

most poeple run about 32 psi.

also, a proper valve adjustment is important for gas mileage. later.

I'm always doing this haha, yea I'm going to take it to honda for a valve adjustment. Does anybody know how much they charge? I don't trust myself to do it

I drive pretty conservative since I'm the one footing the bill for the gas

I've always found that replacing stock components with freer flowing components made the mix richer, and reduced fuel economy.

Narrower tires (stock is likely narrowest, I know from experience running wider tires reduces mpg from increasing friction, though it does give you much better grip. So its a trade off.)

And a higher psi in your tires. Firmer tires reduce traction but increase your mpg slightly. So please remember to slow down.

I run my tires at about 36 psi, its a trade off between too firm and too squishy. Be careful not to exceed or come close to the tires psi limit, but fill your tires to about 10% less than max, and drive around to feel the difference. Let some air out until its comfortable for you, and record that setting.

Reduce weight, well as best you can, clean that junk out of your car.

You want your engine to use the least amount of fuel it can. That's why I recommend restricting the amount of air it can take in, though it reduces powa.

I'll give everyone a chance to tell me I'm wrong and etc.

just lean it out as much as possible with an safc. that will increase power and help gas mileage. if you don't drive on the interstate much, an h22a tranny would help gas mileage but if you're routinely driving over 55mph, then the lower gearing won't help (maybe wouldn't hurt much)

shorter gears need less power to get the car moving. less power means less gas. the engine drinks more fuel the higher the rpm, so on the highway, taching 4000rpm wouldn't be very economical

Is there anyway a person could reliably lean out their mixture without a chipped ecu? (which is pretty expensive I think. If you're concerned about making a few extra mpg, you probably can't afford a chipped ecu and extensive tuning.)

*edit* I didn't see that you said to use a safc for some reason

when on the highway, dont drive w/ your windows down, that causes drag. But driving with the window slightly cracked w/ the A/C off helps the highway mileage. Clean EGR, IACV......um basically keep you car in good shape, that does a lot. Try and draft other cars when on the highways as well. There are these huge SUV's that always drive in front of me, so i tail them and make them take up all the drag LOL, in turn causing me to use less gas.

Drafting semis does really help mpg but its dangerous
