ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Read them. You will be expected to follow them.

Hello again everyone. Engine should be here in the morning, quick question. I was thinking....preventative maintenance is always good, but with supposedly 35000 miles on this H22 would it be that important to change water pump and timing belt. Not a huge deal to do it, just wondering what the collective cb7 gods think.

My advice to people change as many seals and timing all of that with the motor out. its 10x easier.

They want freakin 1500 for the motor only at the japenese exchange in salt lake city. I thought I did pretty good. thanks for the input tho

Damn if you woulda posted what you were spending in your first post im sure people here could have redirected you to places where stuff would have been cheaper. I paid 1000 flat for my motor and 700 for my trans. I ordered my chippped p28 for 150 but whats done is done.

Anyway yes change anything you possibly can especially timing belt and water pump. It will give you peace of mind that for about 60k miles you wont have to change those parts. And besides over time rubber degrades/dries out and you dont know how long the motor has been sitting and the conditions it was in ie.temp/humidity. So yeah replace as much as possible.

I changed timing belt/water pump, distributor, spark plugs. And really thats just the most basic stuff! Clutch, flywheel, pressure plate, and TO bearing are good to change as well.

hmotorsonline is a VERY safe choice. Good choice there. You can get cheaper, but not always better. (Australian motors with high mileage, stolen motors, broken motors... not always, but cheaper places sell them cheaper for a reason...)

I had my H22 installed years ago, and my shop (idiots) said the timing belt was fine. They didn't change it. Keep in mind that changing a timing belt on motor that is not in the car is easy as anything. Changing it while the motor is in the car is a little more of a hassle. You might want to look into doing the H23 manual belt tensioner conversion (there's a DIY on it here somewhere). The H22 auto tensioner can fail, and the result is as bad as a snapped timing belt. Again, I did not do the conversion. My new motor will have it done.

Change all the seals you can.
          Also, read this thread: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthre...8&page=1&pp=20

Remember, it may have 35,000 miles on it, but it's still at least 13 years old. It could have 100 miles on it and there would still be some things that needed to be replaced. Rubber wears out, and there are some very important rubber pieces on that motor!
