ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    a1 to a6 ?

ok lets start like this i live in canada my ex is ur lx ur ex is my ex-r ok. now i currently run the a1 in my lx now i have a ex-r that i am gonna use for parts and the a6 engine runs now i am wondering what i can swap 2 the a1 to make it a a6 or if i have to swap the whole engine and also if its possible to use the a6 ecu even though that its out of an automatic and my car is 5 speed.i would appreciate any help recieved on this subject.

everything fits. The only difference between the a1 and a6 motors were the cam shaft and intake manifold. Also, the a6 has an oil cooler and something called a "wind plate"...something like that in the crank case to reduce your oil from doing something bad....haha sorry, I don't know too much about that one, but I think it's not worth it to swap that over.

But if you swap over the cam shaft and intake manifold, then it'd be running like an a6. Only problem is your ecu. You need to swap over the a6 ecu as well, but you can't use that automatic one. You can use your a1 ecu...but it'd defeat the entire purpose of swapping shafts and manifold. I have an a6 manual ecu if you want it too. Just Pm me

another difference between the a1 and a6 were the headers. the a1 has something called 4-1 headers while the a6 has 4-2-1. This means that air is more fluent exiting the engine. Rather than taking the air from all four cylinder and jamming it into one pipe like in the a1, the 4-2-1 headers break it down a little more and bring it to two pipes, then finally one. You will definitely see power gains.

However, if you do not change cams like cb7lx91 pointed out, you should not switch out ecu's because when running the a6 ecu in an a1.. you're forcing the enging to run more rich at higher rpm's.. thus reducing gas mileage.

      good luck

the a4 was the one that actually had a 4-2-1 header design, the a6 has a manifold.

I personally don't think its worth the hassle to try to make the a1 an a6. there's not much difference. my friend has a1 and I have a a6 w both have full exhaust intake and dropped when we run them I have him by a car. not much difference. would rather not build that motor unless u wanna slap on a turbo for an extreme difference, besides that u should be thinking of another motor to put in there.

wow this was the best response i have got so far and well the a6 does have 15 hp over a1 and i have the whole engine sitting in the car that dont drive cause of mest up trannie i mean if i could afford a h22 that would def b the way 2 go but i think free a6 swap is more practical on my budget.thx 2 all that replied with a response to the ques i asked.

a6 intake manifold, a6 camshaft, and pt6 ecu is all I swapped over to my f22a1. better top end response. good luck, you'll enjoy it for time being.
