ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Read them. You will be expected to follow them.

    smoke upon start up

Okay this is for my mom's toyota minivan i think its a Sienna. Anyways, whenever it first starts up, some white smoke comes through the exhaust for about 5 seconds but then goes away. what could this be? I tried revving it after letting it idle to see if it would still do that but its ONLY on start up.

yeah, it's totally normal. that's just the piping heating up and pushing out any condensation that was left there over night or any other long period of time.

yeah heres some more info on it: its a 2003 with the 3.0 liter vvt-i engine w/ about 112,400 miles. I really havn't any idea what's been done to it workwise in the past so coolant leak someone said? or headgasket needs to be replaced? how much do these usually run?

really dude, it's normal.. don't go replacing head gaskets because regular garages charge you an arm and a leg to do.

i really doubt its your headgasket, if your headgasket was blown, the white smoke will come out of the tailpipe at all times especially while reving the engine

to make sure you don't have blown headgasket take it to a mechanic and have him do a leakdown test.

again its normal, toyotas are very reliable so i don't think you should have a problem

exactly, especially since it's only 4 years old with such low miles.. unless your mother beats the shit out of it which I doubt

My H22 does that and I was told it was a leaky valve seat. The oil drips into the cyclinder and burns off as white smoke when you start it. Check and see if it burns oil too.
MR Thread- I brought SEXY back- LOL
If it jams, force it. If it breaks, it needed replacement anyway.

Never argue with an idiot, they drag you down to their level and then beat you with with experience!!!

Newer cars are all like this...Its normal dont replace anything. The reason why you see smoke on startup sometimes is because the cats and crap are more efficient and there is usually some moisture that gets trapped in the system and eventually burns off and comes out as steam. The newer systems are more efficient so yea its normal as everyone as mentioned.

this is what I was told by the yota dealership when I took in my wife's 2002 camry xle with the same problem.

I have checked multiple times for other leaks and have found nothing else that could be the cause.
