ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

Underhood rust yay. Anyway the only person that i can think of that made a hood scoop big enough was rocknricer. Other than that I really see no point. CAI would probably be the best bet. You can try cutting the hole forward a bit instead of on top of the filter. But I still dont see the benefits of this mod. Better off just making a heat shield or somtehing or en enclosure with computer fans blowing in lol.

nissan 280zx's have hood vents, and it causes nothing but problems, they allways leak, they cause rust, and wiring problems, and you are going to be constantly soaking your air filter.

If you still want to do it, then I would try to utalize the "ram air" and have a box that seals under the hood, so that the air coming in only goes into the engine, you have to think tho.

you are going to have a bigger problem with road grime, dirt, bugs ect. and your filter will have to be changed or cleaned way more often.

Cool idea, but whether it is practical, I am not sure.

Another idea would be to mold louvers into the hood. I'm not saying that I want or would like to do it, cause its not my taste. But, its an idea.

                Here's a carbon fiber louver.

Or you could get someone to punch the louvers the steel of your hood too. Hot Rod shops usually can do this.

I've seen a couple VW guys do this and it doesn't look too bad. Definately unique.

                      in THE yr. two thoussaaand

I would run an ICEMAN style tube to a COMPTECH style Foam Filter and Box. I would then run plastic tubing to Hollowed out Aerospeed Front Mount Intake box.
I would then consider a hood scoop if my ait temp wouldnt be consistant.

I saw a hatch with this a while back but the hood was custom made that the filter sat in a like air tunnel leading up off the front of the car with a fiberglass cover for rain

I've been thinking about making this...

I still think somehow a scoop can work.
The way I figure is it would be up near the intake side.

There would be a custom housing/routing box that fits over the intake filter that would mate with rubber seals (like a door/sunroof/trunk does) that correspond to meshed opening with rubber seals along the lip on the underside of the hood.

The scoop leading edge would actually extend over and past (forward) the leading edge of the air opening on the hood, thus preventing rain water from getting in from the top or trickling down from the hood/windshield.

The air-tight seal between the mating surfaces of the hood and the custom intake router housing also would prevent any change in current under-hood air dynamics (Since the new air would be going straight into the intake, not swirling around in the engine compartment), as well as prevent any water from getting under the hood.

Here is how I am envisioning it: (excuse my crude mouse-drawn diagrams; the proportions of the scoop are just for illustration; the real version I would make would be much more low-profile and not stick out as much as the diagram shows):

This system would possibly increase forward-fed airflow as the car reaches higher speeds, and get fresher cooler air in (instead of drawing hot air from under the hood). But, mostly, admittedly, this would be also for aesthetics and uniqueness.

btw, lol, there is a local guy here who has TWO scoops (ala 2000 Firebird) on the middle/front of his cb7 hood....and they look like STICK-ON scoops. Were I to make my version into a functional scoop, it would be a single offset (by the intake) scoop body-worked into the hood for that clean, seamless look.

                              blackpearl i agree with you.

and the the OP, i was thinking about doing this. on mine tho, i was going to put the vent right there in front of the filter so that it gets all the air. but i was going to wait until i got another hood before i did it. some may say its too much trouble to switch hoods when its about to rain but i like doing stuff on my car so it wouldnt be much a problem to me.

i say try it, but get another hood. have it so that when it rains you have another holeless hood to use.

I had a idea to solve this problem a LONG time ago I was planing to make a irbox that would stick out the hood with a scoop on it and seals to the hood from under it with rubber so no water damage plus it doesnt rain much in texas

                                ram air-box

never got to try it out though
