ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Anyone with Cold Air Intake Problems????

Just curious...any one had any bad experiences with a CAI? Im in FL and it rains very heavy here and I am afraid to get a CAI becuz there are sometimes big ass puddles on the roads after rain and I do not want to ingest water in my engine. I have a short ram and Its too hot in my engine bay especially since I have no heat shield on my headers I witnessed it happening to my boi's RSX

We've had a few hydrolocks on here... and most of them were intelligent members as well. If you get a CAI, get a bypass valve to be safe!

Also, a CAI is a pain to have to move out of the way. If I could do it again, I'd have gotten a cheapie ebay short ram instead of my $200 AEM pipe!

There was a video at AEM, an NSX with cold-air intake plus bypass valve intalled in it. They dumped the filter in water and run the engine with the filter dipped in water. None of the water came into the engine.

you do know that when you're in motion, the air inside your engine bay is the same temperature as ambient air?

The hot air it sucks in during idle is nothing that will hurt anyways. Turbo'd cars suck in hotter air, even with an intercooler.

Very true. AT BEST, a CAI will give you 1-2hp over a short ram... and that's in ideal conditions.

Bottom line... get a CAI for the bling factor only...
A serious NA build will use ITBs. A turbo build won't use a standard CAI (other than for charge piping... )

True but why are you so worried about hotter air....Whatever is outside of the car is 10x cooler than whats going on inside the engine....Engine optimal temp is around 180-210 degrees....so sucking in 90 degree air is a luxury for a motor...I dont get why people are always I need cold air...If you want it bad enough just run methanol injection or water injection and call it a day.

Is the Bypass filter necessary in places where there are not big puddles? I live in SW VA and we don't get too much rain. Is it mainly for a lot of rain or just regular standing water on the road?

The only way you'll hydrolock is if you pass right over a big enough puddle.

I've had a cai while driving in Seattle. While it was raining. Fuck, it was pouring. And there were huge puddles on the highway. I was scared as shit, but nothing happened.

                            Just watch for puddles.

Over a short ram? Not enough to feel... I have a CAI, and honestly... I wouldn't bother buying one again.
