Stock Header Question

This is kind of a beginners questions so I figure the answers it recieves would be best put to use in the Beginners section..

So my Question is; Why is the stock F22a4 header considered, to some, better then the stock F22a6 header?

I realize the following

F22a1 header is a 4-1 header (4 pipes, one each cylinder, merge to one)
F22a4 header is a 4-2-1 header (4 pipes, one each cylinder, merge to two and then right before the flex-pipe merge to one)
F22a6 header is also a 4-2-1 header (4 pipes, one each cylinder, merge to two and then right before the flex-pipe merge to one)

If the above "facts" are indeed true, then why is the a6 header inferior to the a4 header? Is there something about the material or shape of the pipes?

Reason I ask is I am looking to upgrade to something a little better then the a1 header and have heard good things about the a4 but not the a6 headers, and somethign stock is really all I can afford right now.. Thanks in advance.. Later

ok im gonna take a stab at this one.

and PLZ correct me if im wrong

from what ive heard the A4 header is better becuz it is the only one out of the 3 that the shape of the pipe is cylindrical.



a junk yard wants between $20 and $40 for it. i bought one off ebay for $60 shipping. yes i am aware that its ebay ect.

A4 = tubular design
A6 = A big blob of cast iron.

You put both side to side you will see the difference.

I had a feeling it was something as simple as that... I managed to see an a4 header at the junkyard today and notice the tubular design but I wasn't able to find an a6 header to compare it too..

So for a follow up question... Why didn't Honda carry the tubular design onto the a6? Later
